I still remember the ride from Assam to the hilly outskirts of Meghalaya. Having never visited any of the North Eastern states, this experience was mesmerising. Cleanliness, scenic views, humble people, exotic food, and the fresh air. Coming from a metropolitan city, these nuances seemed like the heaven to me.
After finally reaching the campus in the clouds, IIM Shillong, I got the registrations and the formalities done, and my emotional father gave me a tight hug before saying goodbye.
Days passed with the induction sessions and umpteen Knowledge transfer sessions that took place. Sleep became a luxury. New friendships were forged, delicious maggi was gorged late into the nights while working on assignments. The sustainability week stood out, in the sense that sustainability was taught to us from a holistic perspective, and was concluded by a batch field trip where we got to visit the Sacred Forest along with a beautiful trek. Lush trees, untouched environment and the beautiful sounds of nature engulfed us completely. The trek, however, was the star of the show. Traversing the hilly terrain of Shillong, while kissing the clouds was enthralling. Friendships got even stronger, families in the making. A family is a beautiful thing. Following is a poem regarding my experience here at IIM Shillong.
Wake up to the sounds of the rain
That washes away all the yester pain
Management is now the core religion
Studies, committees, decisions decisions
Metallic sounds of the mess utensils
Sometimes we get noodles but mostly lentils
All the bonding done over the World Cup
From finance to marketing, here happens all the gupshup
One glance out of the class windows
Shows the view to the eyes
Scenic beauty better than a thousand TV shows
Resulting in an all-encompassing batch smile
Pressure, stress, deadlines on the go
If you wake up first, you're the alarm
Lecture halls door will close, you can’t be slow
For teachers waiting to impress you with their charm
Staying hungry here is a sin
So keep your stomachs full
Do not sleep, keep up your chin
In B Schools all-nighters are cool
Buddy groups with seniors
Party and study scenes with them all night
They are our Gurus for the year
Keeping up all our lights
Study groups and peer groups
Inductions are on the nigh
Life here rarely becomes a mundane loop
Preparations for the internships flying high
Diversity, sustainability, greenery and clouds
Have become the norm of the batch
180 voices echo the halls of Nongthymmai out loud
Since IIM Shillong is our perfect match
Aditya Birla Group
My company of choice is Aditya Birla Retail Limited. The company’s key focus since inception has been quality, testified by the motto 'Quality 1st. This is further strengthened by the fact that it received the first ever Indian food and grocery retailer to receive the FSMS (Food Safety Management System) certification. I am highly interested in the FMCG and Retail domain while keeping marketing as my specialisation. ABRL with its plethora of outlets and brands all across India will definitely allow me to use my skills which I will imbibe during these two years at IIM Shillong.
