IIM Tiruchirappalli (IIMT) celebrated its 6th Foundation day on the 4th of January, 2017 with a grand function. The Foundation Day marks the inception of IIM Trichy as the 11th Indian Institute of Management.
The event was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Mrs.Usha Ananthasubramanian, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Punjab National Bank, Guest of Honour, Mr. Kwan Chee Sun, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Global Business Services, India, Dr. Prafulla Agnihotri, Director, IIMT, Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NIT Trichy and Prof. V. Gopal, Dean Accounts and Administration, IIMT. The welcome address was delivered by Dr.Agnihotri and he spoke at length about the state of the art new campus and its cutting-edge facilities. He mentioned that it would be a benchmark for the other management institutes. He also stressed upon the excellent faculty at IIM Trichy and the various research and journal publications that they do.
Mr. Kwan Chee Sun spoke about the massive changes and disruptions in the world. He exhorted students to always continue learning and be adaptable to change. He also said that it is important to develop cross-cultural intelligence and to never lose sight of integrity, values and conduct.
Mrs. Usha Ananthasubramanian, in her address to the students, spoke about the importance of innovation in today’s world. Keen observation, fertile imagination and the ability to learn from failure are mainstays of innovation. She also said that it is necessary to move into newer territories instead of competing in the existing spaces.
Social responsibility is a core value inculcated at the institute and students engage in a “Make a difference” (MAD) Project which aids different strata of the society. One of the teams, comprising of final year students J S Ambady, Ashutosh Kumar, Rakesh Kumar M, SVDR Sankar Kovvali, Supreme Koustuv Bhoi and Kush Maloo, was awarded a certificate of appreciation for their project that assisted a Day Care Centre for Children with Special Needs. The vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. V. Gopal.
The day came to a close with a cultural programme was organised by SPIC MACAY - IIM Trichy Chapter. ‘Kalyanasougandhikam', a dance recital, was performed by renowned Kathakali artist, ThulasiKumar S.
