Tiruchirappalli has always been the land of temples. “Sorgavasal” a ritual that happens in the temple of Srirangam on a particular day in a year where the gateway to heaven is opened. Let me tell you it may sound like a myth or legend, but the day I arrived on a new campus of IIM T, I saw where I wanted to be. I saw the potential. I saw the future me emanating from the legacy of IIM Trichy. So, I asked myself is this Heaven? But the journey to heaven is not an easy one. You need to go through hell to reach it. IIM is an elite group in the field of management studies in India. To be a part of it is a dream for many and a reality for few. The rigour of academia is almost standard across all IIMs but what is unique about the IIM Trichy experience? well for starters it spoils you with luxury! Most of which only the upcoming batch would enjoy. I cannot stress enough on the infrastructure. The whole campus is Air-conditioned - the class rooms, hostel rooms and even the mess! With a huge library and a sports complex on the verge of completion, the almost fully functioning campus provides the best ecosystem for ideas to thrive.
What sets IIM Trichy apart? oh wait let me throw in some of the management jargon! What is the competitive advantage of IIM Trichy? Firstly, an almost ready campus. The Location, Trichy. Let me be honest among the likes of new IIMs, Trichy is well connected domestically and internationally and is located 10 mins from the domestic airport. I don’t want to elaborate on the faculty, its international ties ups, the accreditations specially from CFA and placement which are all given in detail in the website. And of course, the culture is an amalgamation of people across India.
IIM Trichy is more like a start-up which is in its tremendous growth phase and being a part of it is actually amazing. One thing I can say for myself which my batch have also witnessed is the transformation in moving from a campus in NIT Trichy to the new permanent campus. We have been part of this growth and are proud to have sown the seed for the new culture to evolve. The pace at which its growing, it will no doubt add up to the likes of old IIMs ABCL pretty soon since we are already knocking on the doors of Kozhikode & Indore. The optimism in me because of what I saw on the first day through the Gateway to heaven? so I ask myself like harry did "Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?" for which a fellow batch mate replied "Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real? We will make it real!!”
