It was 4.00 am in Pattaya, I checked-out from my hotel room and was waiting in hotel reception area for my family to arrive. Tired because I was made to wake up early, I started scrolling my e-mails being almost sure that I would find nothing interesting as always, but god had other plans for me this time. My eyes stumbled upon one particular message from IIM Visakhapatnam Administration. My heart started racing like a Ferrari and my mind started thinking of all the things that could happen to me after reading this mail. Slowly, my hands wet from the profuse sweating clicked on the thread. And voila… It was Congratulatory message for being selected in the one of the prestigious Institute in India for two-year MBA program. I was so happy that for next 10 minute or so, I did not realize where I was or what was I doing there. Then my thoughts took me around four months back, where I had just started giving interviews for various MBA colleges. I had a list of my own „dream colleges‟ in which IIM V was ambitious reach. Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV), one of the modern and belonging to the prestigious IIM family of business schools offered a great promise for fulfilling my goals. Moreover, on-going mentorship by esteemed institute like IIM Bangalore and vibrant city like Visakhapatnam which has developed a home to a variety of State, Central & Privately owned heavy industries. Visakhapatnam Port & Gangavaram Port has become the gateway for the Indian industrial revolution by advancing the naval trade. Also, the locational advantage has paved way to various other industries in the city. So all in all, Visakhapatnam has long been known for its innovation, entrepreneurship, industry, technology and talent which adds to the educational environment prospects and gives direction to the performance to get into promising industries. IIMV sitting in Andhra University which is one of the oldest universities in India gives access to all the prime facilities which make studying at ease. All these advantages of IIMV would open doors to variety of managerial skills and access to large business network situated in nearby cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai etc. Studying in IIMV would definitely make me come out of my comfort zone and will broaden my cultural and intellectual horizon. From the moment I saw the email, joining IIM Visakhapatnam was my obvious decision and my excitement has never been this high. I am also eager to meet our seniors who have been continuously guiding us from the day-1. Though I am miles away from IIMV right now, I already feel like I am coming to my second home, where I will be able to grow to my full potential. Which ABG company would I want to work for and why? Being a Mechanical engineer along with two years of work-experience as Sr. Executive in Quality Department of GKN Driveline, I would like to work in ABG‟s Plant Operation or Supply chain function. Work experience in Quality department has changed my mindset to look Quality-wise towards process designing and execution approach to avoid flaw generation in product/process. While coordinating with SCM department I understood the importance of “Delivery at Right Time”, As a leader of the 24-member team, I learned about essential team building, communication and social skills. In technical realm, I learnt about theoretical and application aspects of 7-QC tools, PPAP in-depth. My analytical skills were enhanced by daily monitoring of scrap data and internal customer rejection data. Formal education in prestigious institute “IIM Viskhapatnam” will enhance and shape my managerial skills which I can effectively use in plant operation and Supply chain domains.
