I’m Vedant Mate, MBA student at SJMSOM IIT Bombay batch of 2023. I will be sharing my interview experience at SJMSOM.
After having applied on the admission portal of the institute, I received an email regarding my qualification for interview. The interview was scheduled on 5th March 2021. That week I was especially busy because I had to attend interview for two IIMs. The admissions team gave timely updates regarding the status of the interview schedule and I never felt uninformed. Finally the interview day arrived.
The admissions team had developed an unique platform for the interview. It was a virtual reality platform in which each person was personified by a character. Navigating through the platform was like playing a video game. Unlike other IIM interviews on Zoom or Google meet, SJMSOM was way ahead of time. I could move through auditorium hall and interact with other characters (interview candidates, seniors and document verification authorities). I was awe struck by the innovative thinking that went into developing the platform. My stress was completely relieved as my anxiety was overtaken by my curiosity. The seniors shared their interview experience and gave us insight about life at SJMSOM which really helped break the ice.
I was interviewed by Prof. (Ms) Trupti Mishra, faculty at SJMSOM and Mr. Naveen Joshi, alumni of SJMSOM. This was a unique combination of interview panel and so were the questions they asked. Prof. Trupti focused on the academic and personal side asking me questions related to Industry 4.0, my internship, reason for choosing MBA, my final year project. Whereas Mr. Naveen asked questions about current affairs and my future plans. I was asked to explain Purchasing Manager’s Index (PMI), core sectors of Indian economy and questions related to budget 2021. The interview questions were balanced which gave me an opportunity to showcase my knowledge in different fields.
Overall the experience was unique. I was impressed by how strictly everyone adhered to time and everything went as planned with no last minute changes. The admissions team consisting of senior students were prompt in helping students, crisp communication and timely updates. I must say that this was the best interview experience. Therefore, I chose to study at SJMSOM despite being selected in better ranked institutes.
