We have already seen the most preferred companies in the Sales & Marketing domain in Part III here. Time now to delve into two other popular domains - Finance & Consulting (You can read the results in other parts of the The InsideIIM Recruitment Survey here)

Banking & Finance

The class of 2013(who selected Finance as their preferred domain) and Post-MBA professionals (who are working in this domain) were asked if they would work in a list of companies on a scale of 'Most Desirable','Highly Desirable', 'I'm Confused', 'I do not wish to apply' and 'I have never heard of this company before'. A weighted mean score was calculated. MBA aspirants and 1st Year MBA students were asked to simply Rank their top 5 companies. A weighted scored was calculated assigning weights of 10,6,3,2,1 for the 5 ranks. The Results When it comes to Banking & Finance, you will see a lot of shifting in the ranks among the three segments. Factors such as front-end roles, middle office roles etc. play a big part. Also, very clearly a few companies with less exposure on all the top campuses will suffer. It would especially happen to some top companies that recruit from 2-3 campuses only. However, alumni and people in the industry would have a fair idea and their ratings should be worrying for companies that scored less. It should definitely matter to those companies which did not feature in the top 10 ranks at all. Not a single Indian financial institution was in the top 10 of any of the 3 segments of our respondents. Clearly, a function of money offered and brand image. As you can see , quite some shifting of ranks when it comes to the choices of the Class of 2013     Roles within Banking & Finance are complex and not very easy to understand. That understanding is extremely low among aspirants and 1st year MBA students.  A lot of the rankings given by this segment is dependent on hearsay and general perception of a company's brand. 1st year MBA students are heavily influenced by their seniors as time progresses closer to the placement season. Most Preferred Indian Financial Institutions Let's look at the top 5 Indian Financial Institutions and their overall ranks for the 2 more evolved segments. Again, we have the same suggestion. If you have to go with the opinion of a segment, go with that of the alumni who have worked in the sector.

Consulting

The class of 2013(who selected Consulting as their preferred domain) and Post-MBA professionals (who are working in this domain) were asked if they would work in a list of companies on a scale of 'Most Desirable','Highly Desirable', 'I'm Confused', 'I do not wish to apply' and 'I have never heard of this company before'. A weighted mean score was calculated. MBA aspirants and 1st Year MBA students were asked to simply Rank their top 5 companies. A weighted scored was calculated assigning weights of 10,6,3,2,1 for the 5 ranks. The Results   BCG has scored extremely well across all segments and has topped the Alumni and Class of 2013 surveys comfortably.   McKinsey & Co. still rules the roost when it comes to the MBA aspirants and 1st Year MBA students.   Methodology Over 1200 respondents took the survey online. Incomplete surveys were filtered out.  Duplicate surveys were not accounted for. Adequate steps were taken to prevent ballot stuffing and rigging using technology. The above findings are based on 700 legitimate respondents  with 70% of the respondents in 10 major cities in India . They answered between 25-30 questions based on their profile (Aspirant, Student or Alumni). The relevant questions have been mentioned above for each of the parameters addressed in this part.   If you are preparing for Summer Placements or Final Placements, please have a look at our Career Guide - The InsideIIM Career Guide   The InsideIIM Recruitment Survey 2012 Results Part I – Most Preferred Work Cities Part II – Cost of an MBA Programme in India, Minimum Salary expectations (Class of 2013), Companies delivering the Best Pre-Placement Talk (Voted by Class of 2013)  Part III – Career Choices – Most Preferred Career Domains, Most Preferred Sales & Marketing Companies Part IV - Most Preferred Companies in Finance & Consulting Part V -  Most Preferred Companies in General Management & Dream Companies - Overall     You may also be interested in : Insights@InsideIIM
