Sitting in the lap of Himachal, wrapped with the lush green mountains and backed by the river Yamuna is the beautiful, peaceful and soothing campus of the Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur. A typical morning here starts not with the deafening horns of the heavy vehicles running on the city roads and scream of the chimneys of the factories around, but with the chirping of the birds, announcing the arrival of the first sunrays of the day which may strike right at your face if you’re lucky enough to get a hostel room facing the east. The mountain-fresh air becomes your natural source of energy and you suddenly realize that you’ve brought peace to your lungs at least for the next two years of your life. The monsoons add to the scenic beauty of the place. The rains take the beauty of the campus to a different dimension altogether. They tempt you to leave your rooms and dance to celebrate. The beauty of nature around doesn’t stop. You forget to blink when you see the clouds flowing through the mountains silently and slowly. And you realize that your college doesn’t look any less than a hill station. The cherry on the cake is that you’re going to stay here for a long period of time with your friends, a lot of good friends. To cool off, you needn’t go to the bars and the pubs, but there are soothing and entertaining destinations like Rishikesh and Mussoorie. For the people who long for spiritual peace, there is the whole of Himachal and Uttarakhand where you get world famous treks, mountain peaks, monasteries and what not! The college is a lit choice for the students who are fond of riding bikes and cycles. The flawless curvy roads wrapped around some of the best hilly areas give you the pleasure of a riding along with stunning scenery on the way.
They say that getting in a premier B-school is difficult, but what’s even more difficult is to successfully survive the cut-throat competition from the batchmates, the pressure of the relative grading system, deadlines and the projects leave you yearning for sleep. Luckily the uniqueness of IIM Sirmaur lies in the fact that the students are well connected with each other and the faculties. Since, the batch size is not too large (it is less than 63 for my batch), you become friends with almost everyone at the college which makes you feel like living with a family away from your family. Even the faculty members are approachable. They have good bonding with each student individually.
IIM Sirmaur, in addition to being what it is, also has a bit of a number of elite Indian B-Schools in itself. With the top class and irreplaceable faculties visiting the campus to teach different courses in the first and the second year gives the students here a taste of the B-Schools like IIM A, B, C, XLRI, IITB etc. Being taught by the distinguished faculty members of the different A-Class B schools, we get the same knowledge and pedagogy as in any other elite college. Therefore, every student here has got a little bit of different IIMs, FMS, NITIE and the other A-listers in himself.
Though among the newest of the IIMs and operating at a temporary campus of Himachal Institute of Technology, the liberal campus life helps to ease out the pressure of the studies. The clubs and the committees never miss out on screening the biggest of events like FIFA World cup, IPL, or popular web series like Game of Thrones. Movies are also screened during the spare times. All these events are screened on a projector in the classrooms. Imagine watching a big match like FIFA WC Finals with your friends on a big projector! The roar of the crowd gives you a taste of a mini stadium.
The official events like Academic-Industry meet, Leadership Summit, TEDx and a number of guest lectures make sure that we get the best of industry exposure. IIM Sirmaur has recently proven its commitment to the society by teaming up with IIM Bangalore to organize the Women Start-up program. Lead by the first ever women director of an IIM, the college strives for innovation and also tries to give back to the society as much as possible.
IIM Sirmaur lets you learn, struggle, compete, live, play and celebrate together.
Which ABG company I like the most and why?
ABG comprises of a number of highly successful companies, but the company of my choice is Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd. Which is the mother company to some of the most iconic and smash hit fashion brands like Louis Phillipe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Peter England and the multi-brand outlets like Pantaloons and Planet Fashion. These brands drive the fashions statement of the youth of the country. Considering the fact that India is the youngest country of the world having the largest youth population worldwide, the fashion companies under the ABG fall in the list of the few companies which are shaping the India of tomorrow. In my opinion, it will be exciting to be a part of such a revolutionary and futuristic company.
