There is an age old saying – “Man proposes, God disposes”. People say that one can never make the perfect plan, that no matter how meticulous you are something or the other is always bound to go wrong. To quote Linkin Park, ‘In the end, it doesn’t even matter’. However, no one ever talks about what to do after that happens, how to deal with the problem and come up with a solution. The simple reason for this is that there is no ‘right’ answer to that. The sheer magnitude and the complexity of every possible thing that can go awry is such a humongous number that even the human mind bows before it. The number of moves one can make in a game of chess after the first six moves stand at a staggering nine million. And life is much more complex than a game of chess.  One thing is clear from this - one cannot contemplate each and every move on their path to success. There comes a time when logic becomes ineffective and one needs to shoot in the dark, not knowing where they are shooting but simply doing their best and having faith that it will hit the mark. That is the very concept of ‘Lock stock and barrel’. To go all in. To take a leap of faith, not knowing where you will end up but giving your best and hoping it all works out. It is the point of no return, where in you must move ahead, come what may. Every one of us at some point in time has faced such a situation. A situation when one has his back to the wall with all the doors to success seemingly closed and only darkness ahead. When a person faces such a situation, he has two possible courses of action; he can either close his eyes and hope the situation turns a blind eye to him; something that never happens. This is the easy option, one which requires the least effort; the path of losers. The other option is the difficult one, for this option despite having an influx of a herculean amount of effort has no certainty of desirable outcome. Yet, one thing is for sure. If success is to be achieved then this option is the only way forward. It has different names in different places yet its philosophy is the same - lock, stock and barrel. Encompassing everything into one single spear point and then thrusting it into anything and everything that comes in the way. A common doubt that arises here is - what if it doesn’t work out? What if, despite pitching in everything that one has got, one doesn’t get the desired results? What if the walls of the unknown are too high to climb over? What if one fails? The answer to all of these is a bit abstract in nature. The thing is, failure too is a part of life. There will always be situations where one cannot overcome the obstacles in the path. Yet there is a learning in that as well. In such situations, one may not learn the correct way to approach a problem but he does get to learn how not to approach the problem. Due to this the next time he faces something similar his chances of failing will be one lesser than the last time. To quote Edison, “Many of life's failures are people who did not realise how close they were to success when they gave up”. Hence, the message in this theme - do not give up. When life gives you lemons you make lemonade out of it and when the problem looks to be too big for your breeches go lock, stock and barrel at it!
