First of all, let me congratulate you on making it this far. I am hoping your preparation for the interviews are in full force and this article will help you to shape it even better. Here, I have made an attempt to collate interview experiences of my friends who are from various backgrounds and are currently, first-year students at MDI Gurgaon. This article is a continuation of the last two articles I wrote on MDI Interview Experiences. Please go through them, if you haven't already: Part 1 | Part 2 Last year, groups were formed for the Group Discussion round. Then we were called to the interviewers’ room and were given a topic. The topic is common for GD as well as WAT. First, we were given 10 minutes to write on the topic and then we had to start our discussion.

Jenil Shah –
10th (96%) – 12th (80.91%) – BTech (7.75)
Work Experience of 12 months in Precision Global Springs Pvt. Ltd.
CAT Percentile (99.61%) – General Male Engineer

WAT + GD Topic: Information vs Confidentiality: RTI is being diluted. Interview:

P1 called me in and asked me to have a seat. P2 had my personal data form.
P2: So you've nicely structured and filled in the form.
Me: Smiled and said, 'Thank you, Sir.'
P2: (Looking at my form) So you're from SVKM's DJSCE. That's a private college, right?
Me: Yes, Sir. It's the 2nd best in Mumbai after VJTI.
P2: Laughs & said, 'I know, I know. Who's the director there?'
Me: I answered and then we have a nice little chit chat about the directors, chairpersons and the group of trustees and how NMIMS is and why did I not apply there.
P2: What is your CAT Percentile?
Me: 99.61 percentile, Sir.
P2: You must have great calls then. What all calls do you have?
Me: Answered.
P1: Then you must have XL also.
Me: No, Sir.
P2: (Looking at my form) Ohho Gujarati cho.
Me: Smiled and said Yes, Sir.
P2: Which part?
Me: Answered.
P2: (Still looking at my form) Okay so you're from Electronics & Telecommunications. So tell me the difference between communication & telecommunication.
Me: Answered it really well.
P2: You must be knowing what is a bit?
Me: Yes Sir. Answered.
P2: What is meant by bit? Like what is it a short form of?
Me: I don't know Sir.
P2: Explained it to me. He continued. 'Okay, you would have heard about baud rate. Explain what it is.'
Me: Answered.
P2: Okay so moving on, what is the difference between terrestrial and aerial communication, which one is better.
Me: I answered the difference. Didn't know the cost analysis. P2 explained it to me. After the explanation, he was like, "I'm tired. Let me take a breather" and gave my form to P1 & asked him to continue & closed his eyes. (All this while P1 was going through my WAT and I guess marking it then and there. He was underlining stuff with a pencil)
P1: Okay, so tell me something about the telecom sector.
Me: Had a good discussion on Jio & then the Vodafone-Idea merger along with Airtel and other providers. Light cross-questioning, but a good 4-5 minute discussion on this.
P2: (After having relaxed for a while) Okay so haan I had one question. Why are there so many Gujaratis in Mumbai?
Me: Smiled and answered and gave him my family background and history.
P2: One last question that I wanted to ask you. Lata Mangeshkar is one of the four sisters. Who are the other three?
Me: Sir, along with Lata Tai there is Asha Tai & Usha Tai who are also playback singers. I can't remember the name of the fourth sister. (Forgot Meena Tai)
P1: Aree you are born and brought up in Mumbai only, you should know this.
Me: Sir I know that all the four sisters are singers and they have a brother also who is a director but can't remember the name.
P2: Subah se I'm trying to find this but nobody knows yaar. Let it be. (Looking at P1) Okay, we're done. Thank you.
Me: Thank you Sir. Have a nice day.
