It was 8th September 2019 when we got a mail from placement committee telling us that Brillio was coming for Summer internship placements. I was excited at the same time scared as this was the second company that was visiting the campus. I opted into the placement process and was surprised to see 40 other batchmates applying for the same job role which had a requirement of just one. There was a GD and two rounds of PI. To the end of the last round just 6 of us were remaining and I was confident that I had performed my best in all rounds. To my god luck, I got through. Hence began my journey at Brillio.
I worked under Abhishek Ranjan, Practice head CSR & Sustainability, and Praveen Xavier, Lead CSR & Sustainability. I was assigned two projects-
1. Carbon Footprinting of Brillio, India
2. Digital smiles- Digital literacy program for underprivileged women at LP4Y, Bangalore.
Why do a carbon footprint for your company?
Corporate are more concerned about their brand image and hence they need to be more adaptive in understanding the impacts of their operation on environment. Carbon footprint assessment helps the organization in Brand value enhancement. In addition, companies with measured and disclosed carbon footprint of their operations can earn goodwill and improve brand image by demonstrating commitment toward environment and sustainable business practices. In addition, Investors around the world are increasingly asking companies to prepare for climate change risks and opportunities. It is anticipated that the future investments would be made in the companies that are energy efficient, low carbon intensive and subsequently have low impacts on the environment and society.
What's the need for digital literacy in India?
Digital literacy is one component of being a digital citizen - a person who is responsible for how they utilize technology to interact with the world around them. With the increased importance of technology in society, digital literacy is gaining recognition as the most valuable tool for lifelong learning. As citizens of a global society, the influence of social media, technology, and online resources is massive. For children, the access to a home computer with internet increases their likelihood of college attendance exponentially. For adults, the ever-evolving tech world can either help them succeed or hold them back. The foundation of digital literacy has four factors. Technological skills and access, authorship rules, representation rules, and online social responsibility. For students and employees to interact responsibly in a digital society, it’s imperative to understand all four parts of the puzzle.
Along with these two projects, I was also the in-charge of Summer Camps at various government schools around the city sponsored by Brillio. I have also planned and executed life skill training sessions at Samarthanam Trust for the disabled at HSR Layout at Bangalore.
The two months I spent at Brillio was a huge learning curve for me. The interactions I've had with VNV advisory, Operations team, Networking team and marketing team will be remembered for a long time to come.
