I had always wondered what an internship during B- School stint would be like. Will it entail any substantial work at all? Afterall interns are not permanent employees, therefore, it is only pragmatic that companies would not want to invest so much into them. Words from seniors who had been interns in the corporate world also didn’t help contradict my belief. With these questions in mind, I ventured into the Ulchemies Program with minimal expectations. But with the passage of time, I realised that my perceptions pertaining to the internship were totally misguided. At the first day of the internship itself, I was given a glimpse of what the coming two months at UltraTech held in store for me. The internship started on a high note by introducing interns to the senior most management and hosting talks in order to familiarise us with the company culture. We were assigned our respective projects and introduced to division heads. All this instilled a sense of confidence and motivation amongst all interns. On an individual level, my project entailed Market research and estimating the market potential of a certain products division. I ended up visiting more than 150 retailers and distributors and also developed a model to establish UltraTech’s position with respect to its competitors. All this could not have been possible without the unwavering support of my mentor, assigned a buddy and the senior most level management. My work was constantly reviewed and appreciated as well. For any employee, the most important metric of being in a corporate setting is to feel validated and taken seriously. This is exactly where UltraTech wins hand down, by making its employees feel valued. My journey as an Ulchemy would be incomplete without mentioning about the Ulchemies program. Ulchemies allowed me to realise my potential as an individual. It allowed me to push my limits, step out of my comfort zone and yet deliver. There were times when self- doubt arose but every time I had my mentor and buddy to help me sail through. The entire program was designed and orchestrated in a way that no intern would feel desolate and lost at any point of time during the internship. Every time I or some other intern for that matter faltered, someone from the company was always there to offer his/her valuable advice and support. In the end, it would also be a grave injustice on my part if I fail to talk about UltraTech as a company. Giving an absolute unbiased view, UltraTech is a bastion of an open culture where an entry-level employee is allowed to seek senior management’s guidance at any point in time. The company offers its employees a sense of security and warmth which is a rare sight in the corporate world these days. In a dog eats dog world, UltraTech ensures that its employees grow holistically as socially conscious corporate citizens indulging in ethical practices.
