For MBA aspirants, Current Affairs are one of the most key components for MBA preparation. In exams such as XAT, IIFT and SNAP, an entire section is dedicated to it in order to test your Current Affairs and General Knowledge. Furthermore, Current Affairs become an interesting topic of discussion in almost all GD-PIs, WATs/AWTs. Therefore, we have come up with the Weekly News Burger, a curation of weekly Current Affairs which will help aspirants avoid scrambling for Current Affairs content at the end of the year when it is most important for competitive exams. This week's News Burger is:
  1. Delhi Becomes First City In The Country To Switch To Ultra-Clean Fuel:
    Ultra clean BS-VI grade fuel will be supplied by New Delhi petrol pumps (at no extra cost). This move comes after concern over pollution levels in the country's capital. BS-IV is the predecessor fuel type and has 5 times higher quantity of Sulphur in it (50 ppm).
  2. India Is World's Second Largest Mobile Phone Producer:
    According to the Indian Cellular Association (ICA), the country is the second largest producer of mobile phones. China is the world's largest producer of mobile phones.
    In related news - India is the world's number 1 importer of almonds, overtaking Spain and China.
  3. India's Longest Elevated Road Inaugurated:
    CM of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath inaugurated what is claimed to be the country's longest elevated road. It is 10.3 kilometres long and is supported by 227 pillars.
  4. Mithali Raj Awarded Title Of 'Best Sports Person Of The Year:
    In related news: Mithali Raj became the most capped player in women's ODI.
  5. Kotak Mahindra Launches AI-run Voice Bot:
    The bot, named 'Keya', uses automatic speech-recognition, text-to-speech and other forms of technology. It is built on a technology that registers a customer’s query and provides a quick and relevant response.
  6.  Carlos Alvarado To Be Costa Rica President:
    Alvarado won with almost 61% votes, and his victory is attributed to his positive and supportive stance on same-sex marriage.
    He won against Fabricio Alvarado, who opposed the legalisation of same-sex marriage.
    At the age of 38, Carlos Alvarado is the youngest President-elect since 1948.
  7. Bahrain Discovers Country's Largest Oilfield In Decades:
    The Kingdom of Bahrain has announced the discovery of 80 Billion barrels of oil. Currently, the Gulf nation producers 50 thousand barrels of oil per day.
  8. Mukesh Ambani Asia's Third Richest Man:
    Ambani is also the 19th Richest man in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
    Jeff Bezos of Amazon and Bill Gates of Microsoft hold the 1st ($118 Billion) and 2nd ($90.3 Billion) places respectively.
  9. FM Arun Jaitley Re-Appointed As Leader Of Rajya Sabha:
    He was elected as the leader of the House in Rajya Sabha in 2014.
    PM Modi is the leader of the House in Lok Sabha.
    In related news - The 65-year-old Finance Minister has been hospitalised at AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) for a kidney ailment and will undergo a kidney transplant surgery.
  10. Mangalore Airport Is India's Cleanest Airport:
    The Mangaluru International Airport has been named as the cleanest airport of the country, as per a report by the Airports Authority of India.
  11. NIRF Rankings Released:
    The National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF) works under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
  12. Pink Polling Booths Set Up For Karnataka Elections:
    The booths will have only female staff, and are aimed at empowering women and increasing their participation in the election and polling processes.
  13. Flipkart Signs Pact With MakeMyTrip:
    Users can now make travel bookings through MakeMyTrip using the Flipkart mobile application.
  14. Mirabai Chanu Wins Gold in CWG 2018:
    The Indian champion weightlifter, who hails from Manipur, has won a gold medal in the ongoing Common Wealth Games held in Australia.
  15. Cabinet Approves Amendments To The Human Rights Bill:
    The amendment, i.e., proposal to add a woman member in the composition of the human rights commission, aims to strengthen the Human Rights Institutions of India.
  16. NASA To Build Silent Supersonic Plane:
    The X-plane will travel faster than the speed of sound and will be relatively quiet as compared to typical supersonic aircraft.
  17. India Ranked 3rd In Vulnerability To Cyber Attacks:
    As per Symantec, a security solutions provider, USA, China and India are the 3 countries most vulnerable to cyber attacks. The rankings are based on metrics such as malware, spam, phishing, network attacks, web attacks etc.
  18. New Delhi Is The Most Hospitable City Of The Country:
    According to Airbnb, Delhi is the most hospitable city of the country, followed by Jaipur, Kochi and Mumbai.
    Maharashtra has been named as the most hospitable state of the country, followed by states such as Goa, Karnataka, Kerala etc.
  19. India Wins Women's Handball Championship:
    The Indian team defeated Bangladesh, and Nepal finished second followed by Bangladesh.
    A total of 5 countries participated in the South East Asian Women Handball Championship.
  20. Leander Paes Becomes The Most Successful Doubles Player:
    Paes won his 43rd doubles match, thereby creating a new world record of becoming the most successful doubles player in Davis Cup history.
  21. Chhattisgarh Named 'State Of The Year':
    Union IT and Electronics Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad gave the award at the IBLA (India Business Leader Award) which was received by Minister Prem Prakash Pandey, who was one of the architects of Chhattisgarh, which was formed in the year 2000.
  22. Britain Introduces Sugar Tax:
    The tax is estimated to raise an amount of 520 Million Sterling, which will be used to fund sports in Primary schools. Britsh Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver has welcomed the move. The Sugar Tax has been introduced to control obesity and tooth decay. Mexico, France and Norway are other countries who have introduced similar taxes.
    In related news - 7th April was celebrated As the 70th World Health Day. This year's theme was "Universal Health Coverage" and the slogan used was "Health For All".
  23. First Flight To The Sun Will Be Launched In July:
    Yes, you read that right. NASA's Parker Solar Probe, which is undergoing its finishing touches and final preparations, will be launched towards the Sun on 31st July of this year. It will be the first man-made object to approach this close to the Sun.
  24. India May Not Participate In SAARC:
    The 2018 SAARC summit will be held in Pakistan. India did not sit for the 2016 SAARC that was to be held in Pakistan (which was cancelled) after the Uri Attacks.
  25. FC Bayern Munchen Win Bundesliga For 6th Consecutive Season:
    The German club, under Jupp Heynckes, has won their 6th consecutive league title after beating Augsburg.
