News Burger – Your Weekly Prep Diet – Week #2 (April)

For MBA aspirants, Current Affairs are one of the most key components for MBA preparation. In exams such as XAT, IIFT and SNAP, an entire section is dedicated to it in order to test your Current Affairs and General Knowledge. Furthermore, Current Affairs become an interesting topic of discussion in almost all GD-PIs, WATs/AWTs. Therefore, we have come up with the Weekly News Burger, a curation of weekly Current Affairs which will help aspirants avoid scrambling for Current Affairs content at the end of the year when it is most important for competitive exams. This week’s News Burger is:

1. Hungarian PM Orban Wins Election:
   Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban won the country's General Elections on 8th April 2018.
   In related news: Tens of thousands of Hungarian citizens collected in Budapest to protest the newly elected Government. The protests are against PM Orban's anti-immigration stance, and the citizens are demanding "fair re-elections".

2. Sebastien Vettel Wins Bahrain GP:
   The German international won the Bahrain F1 Grand Prix for Ferrari. This was his 200th race start and the 49th win of his career.
3. Goa Government To Launch App Based Taxi Services:
   The Goa Tourism Development Corporation will be launching an app-based taxi service to tourist destinations and has invited taxi operators to run their businesses via the app.
4. PM Modi Flags Off Country's First Electric Locomotive:
   The locomotive is a part of a Rs. 20,000-crore joint venture of the India Railways and Alstom, a French rolling stock giant.
5. IGI Airport In World's Top 20 Busiest Airports List:
   The Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi has jumped from being the 22nd to the 16th busiest airport in the world. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport in the United States secured the top spot.
6. Andhra Pradesh To Get Happiness Department:
   CM Chandrababu Naidu has stated that AP's Capital, Amaravati, will soon set up a happiness commission to measure happiness.
   In related news - India is ranked 133rd out of 156 countries in the Global Happiness Index.
7. Lionel Messi Named UN Ambassador:
   The Argentine football legend has been appointed as the ambassador for the Madrid-based body.
8. Haryana Government To Install Water ATMs:
   Under this policy,bus-stands, railway stations, parks, parking areas, markets and other public areas would be identified for the ATM installation. Every water ATM will be located at every 400 metres.
9. Kidambi Srikanth Badminton World No.1:
   Srikanth is world no.1, according to the Badminton World Federation rankings. In 2017, he became the 2nd Indian to win the Denmark Open, the first being Prakash Padukone in 1980.

11. Mithali Raj and Virat Kohli Declared World's Best:
    The two Indian cricketers have been named as the world's best by the Wisden Cricketer's Almanack.
12. India Ranks 130th In Index Of Economic Freedom 2018:
    In 2017, India was ranked 143rd out of 180 nations. Pakistan ranks 131st in the annual index released by an American think-tank, the Heritage Foundation.
13. Siddharth Varadarajan Wins Shorenstein Journalism Award:
    The founding Editor of The Wire has won the award which is presented by the Stanford University's Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center for "outstanding reporting in Asia and significant contribution to Western understanding of the region".
14. India Becomes The 4th Largest Passenger Vehicle Market:
    For the first time ever, India has become the 4th largest PV market globally, moving ahead of Germany. The top positions are held by China, USA and Japan.
    Germany is 5th, while Brazil and France are 6th and 7th respectively.
15. Boeing Signs Deal With Mahindra And Hindustan Aeronautics Limited:
    The US-based aircraft manufacturing giant will work in collaboration with Mahindra and HAL to produce F-18 Super Hornet fighter aircraft for the IAF.
16. The US, UK And France Launch Air Strikes In Syria:
    The three nations launched over 100 missiles to destroy bases for chemical weapons which were allegedly used by the Bashar-Al-Assad government.
    The move brought criticism from the Kremlin in Moscow, which backs the Assad government.

Common Wealth Games:
India finished the CWG with 66 medals, its third most successful performance at the Common Wealth Games (the highest medal count was in Melbourne 2002, with 69 medals in total.)

• In a first, the women's badminton finals were contested by two Indian women, Saina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu.
• Heena Sindhu became the first Indian athlete to win two medals at the 2018 CWG.
• Anish Bhanwala became India's youngest gold medalist at the CWG, winning the men's 25 meters Rapid Fire Pistol Finals at the age of 15.
