- Iraq will host 1st International Football Tournament Since The 1990s:
The middle-eastern nation will host the West Asia Football Federation Championship (WAFFC) in the city of Basra in November 2018. This comes after in March 2018, FIFA lifted the 30-year ban on Iraq from hosting football competitions, owing to the terrorism and disturbance in the country.
- Nipah Virus:
According to the World Health Organization, the Nipah Virus is a disease transmitted from animals to humans. India has already seen multiple cases of the Nipah Virus (Kerala, where it has lead to multiple deaths), and this is not the first time Nipah cases have been seen in the sub-continent. The virus is similar to influenza, and in India, the fatality rate has been 75%.
- Lionel Messi Wins The European Golden Shoe:
The Barcelona legend has won his 5th European Golden shoe after the team won the La Liga Santander for the 2017-2018 season. He scored 34 goals this season and is the only player to have won the award 5 times.
In related news - Real Madrid legend and Portugal Captain Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as the most popular athlete in the ESPN World Fame 100 list.
LeBron James and Lionel Messi came in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Virat Kohli, Sania Mirza and Saina Nehwal also made it to the list.
- North Korea Dismantles Nuclear Test Site:
The Kim Jong-un government has carried out the demolition of the Punggye-ri nuclear test site in a series of explosions. The nation permitted a group of journalists from Britain, China, Russia and South Korea and US to witness the destruction.
- Mumbai To Get UAV Surveillance:
The Mumbai police will use Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for surveillance and install panic buttons across the city.
This is a part of the Rs. 250 Crore Safe City Project, which will be fully implemented by 2021. The above-mentioned UAV will be utilized for the safety of women.
- PM Modi To Visit Indonesia:
The Prime Minister will visit Indonesia from May 29th-31st to work towards building a strong strategic partnership between the two nations. The meeting will focus on the field of space, security and defence.
- Colombia Joins NATO:
The nation will be the first Latin-American nation to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as a global partner.
- Real Madrid Win The 2017-2018 Champions League:
The team won 3-1 over Premier League team, Liverpool. After mistakes from goalkeeper Loris Karius and a brace by Welshman Gareth Bale, the team won against the team coached by Jurgen Klopp.
- Ireland Overturns Abortion Ban:
The European nation has voted to overturn the abortion ban. 66.4% of the votes were against the ban. Currently, abortions are banned in the case of rape, incest or fatal foetal abnormality.
