Enough has been written and said about the JOKA-JAMPOT love-hate relationship and no one’s quite clear as to how the rivalry began. Everyone has their opinions but there’s no doubt that both the institutes produce achievers every year. It’s a common perception that XLRI is better for HR while IIM Calcutta is better for Finance. Both the institutes are quite different from each other and students must choose as per their aspirations. PGDM (BM), XLRI City - XLRI is located in Jamshedpur which is also known as Tatanagar as it’s where Jamshedji Tata had established Tata Steel. Jamshedpur is not easily accessible as it doesn’t have a civil airport of its own yet. Hence some of the companies and guest lecturers find it difficult to visit Jamshedpur. Admission Procedure - Candidates have to appear for Xavier Admission Test (XAT). This test has questions related to Quantitative Ability, English Language & Logical Reasoning, Decision Making, GK and Essay. Only short-listed candidates will receive call letters for Personal Interview. Life at XLRI - A two-day team building programme is compulsory for the students, usually at the beginning of the course which includes adventure activities and includes overnight camping in tents. A village exposure programme is also mandatory for the students where they are expected to stay in the villages and study some of the practices and issues related to rural India. From student societies to festivals like Ensemble, students participate a wide range of co-curricular activities. XLRI also provides counsellors for students. XLRI is part of the prestigious University Network for Social Entrepreneurship and has international exchange programs with partner institutions. Alumni Involvement - Alumni often help in arranging for guest lectures at XLRI. The current students and alumni are informally connected through a Facebook page, The members of this group are always eager to help each other. USP - XLRI has a Behavioural Lab where students conduct research on consumer behaviour and functioning of the individual brain.   PGP From IIM C City - The campus is located far away from the city so the students have limited access to the city. The weather of the city is extremely hot and humid. Admission Procedure - On the basis of CAT score and past academic performance, candidates are shortlisted for Personal Interview and a Written Ability Test. Additional points are given for work experience as well. Life at IIM C - Apart from academics, students indulge in various co-curricular activities and events such as Carpe Diem and Intaglio. There are different clubs for different interest groups. Students also have an option of creating their own interest group which can be converted into a club. IIM C has many international exchange programs for students and faculty with partner institutions across the world.  IIM C offers a double degree in association with ESCP Europe. Full placement support is offered to students opting for the dual degree by the institutes. Also, every year, the second year students of the Institute organize a mentorship program for the first year students to prepare them for the summer placement process. Alumni Involvement - Rishtey- a unique program where each fresher is assigned a mentor from the alumnus till the third term to help students build long-lasting relationship with the alumni is one of the highlights of the first year at IIM C. Students find this extremely effective and choose to continue the relationship beyond the third term. There’s a strong alumni presence in the college events and festivals as well. Many events are sponsored by an alumnus at IIM C. USP - IIM C has a state-of-the-art finance lab that supports applied research in financial markets and equips students with mathematical and conceptual theories that can facilitate the creation of innovative financial products.
