A memorable classroom experience at IIM Trichy
We all know that a classroom is a place to gain knowledge and to learn new things. This process of acquiring knowledge within a classroom varies significantly, from the monologue performances by teachers in our school days to the case pedagogy’s, pre readings and interacting sessions in our MBA. My college is known for its stringent rules and rigorous academic structure. There is no compromise to the standard of education quality provided when it comes to IIM Trichy.
In between such tight schedules in IIM Trichy, my experience with Business Communication class is the most memorable and cherishable one. It proved to be a very important session where one can improve self, learn to manage relationships and work effectively with others when in a team. But I didn’t have these same insights for the first class, probably because of the overconfidence gained from the preparation of CAT or by overlooking the seriousness of this course. I had underestimated the course, prejudging it to be a boring and non-interactive session. The initial class of this subject changed my perception towards business communications; the professor not only planned an interactive session between professor and students but also made it to be interactive with the students. As most of us were still settling into the new campus, new environment and adjusting with new inhibitions, business communication class made us to overcome at least one communication barrier i.e., to interact with each other and to get to know your batch mates much better.
The most memorable classroom experience for me was the first class of business communication where the entire batch was made to play “Chinese whispers’’ game to make us understand the importance of listening. By the end of the activity when we came to know that the message given at the start and at the end was completely different the class was filled with laughter. This activity had made us realise that when a message is passed down through different levels the information either gets cut or gets misinterpreted. And when we received the message that was being passed on, we realised that the logic was missing. This taught us to never hesitate in questioning back and get the correct message through rather than to pass on the same. Lesson to be learnt was that as managers we shouldn’t only convey our thoughts but also should carefully listen and understand what others opinions are. The session was fun where I realised that classroom is not only a place to learn but also to grow and have fun.
Which ABG company you want to work for and why?
If given an opportunity to work for Aditya Birla Group of Companies, I would like to work for Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited. The reason is that I am interested to work in the marketing domain and what better platform than the Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited with its dynamic nature which constantly keeps evolving depending on the customer’s needs, I would like to be a part of this trend setters.
