I had a shortlist from practically every Day Zero company on campus during my first year of my MBA. I even got to the final rounds of a couple of my dream companies. Yet, I couldn’t convert any of them. This is a non-engineer who thought he had cracked how to ace interviews. Oh, what arrogance! I wish I had a more romantic answer to why I didn’t get an offer. However, the answer is plain and boring - I wasn’t prepared well.
Preparation was missing on multiple fronts -
1) What do I want?
2) What am I good at?
3) Background prep on companies visiting
4) How to tackle different scenarios
5) Lack of knowledge on the importance of summer placements on final placements
6) Getting influenced by myths propagated by seniors and purposely tanking interviews
7) Lack of humility
8) Because I thought I anyway wanted to be an entrepreneur
Back in the day, I blamed the placement process whereas the fault lied with me and me alone.
Don’t be like me.
For over a decade, I have seen students feel happy about the fact that they have got admission and become complacent.
This period after admission is critical to understanding yourself and knowing what options exist for you.
Don’t be arrogant and start preparing for the next stage.
