Part A
Aditya Birla Group being active in 14 industry sectors is one of the biggest conglomerates in India. The sectors that it serves are so diverse that it caters to almost all the requirements of an average living man.
One of the most important brands for me under Aditya Birla Group is Ultratech Cement. Though it may seem to be a bit surprising, but yes it’s the cement brand that has shaped a big part of my life. Being brought up in a family that has a business of selling cement in wholesale, I have heard the name ‘Ultratech’ in my life umpteen times. I have grown up playing with cement and P.O.P where other kids played with cars and dolls. I used to make small miniatures of castles, animals, and planes out of Ultratech Cement during vacations and then try to sell those weirdly shaped miniatures to my aunts and uncles for as low as Rs. 10. But the happiness I used to get after getting that money and buying a chocolate or a packet of chips from it is inexplicable. As a kid, I used to look at the logo of Aditya Birla and was always fascinated by the rising sun. It gave me a ray of hope of success and hardwork. The mixture of dark and light colours used in the logo according to me was the reflection of happy and sad moments that we face in our lives. But during all those periods, all we should do is to strive hard to shine and rise.
Part B
Being girls, all of us are expected to be a certain imaginary reflection of perfection, which includes a perfect skin type, body type, hair type etc. And I was always far away from it but as I was growing up, I somehow thought that this was a valid argument and something that everyone should follow and hence tried to fit in. It was during my B.Com (H) days in Delhi University when I started realizing the shallowness behind the whole idea. I was body shamed infinite times and I still have those dark memories stored in me. But as I said earlier, through light and dark, as depicted by Aditya Birla’s logo, one should only strive hard to rise and shine. I wanted to voice my opinion against this patriarchal outlook and found social media as the most convenient way for it. I started an instagram page where I used to write about all this evils in the society and as that page grew I realized how so many girls related to it on so many levels. I remember an incident when I was in the process of back to back B-school interviews and I visited a shopping mall one day. I visited a lot of stores there but all I could find was clothes that wouldn’t fit me and would make me feel uncomfortable. I was so disappointed though I wanted to shop. To my surprise, I found so many comfortable clothes there in Pantaloons which made me a bit more confident about myself.
Aditya Birla is the true definition of Rise and Shine for me.
