Love has no gender - compassion has no religion - character has no race.”
It was on September 6 - 2018 that the Supreme Court of India amended the Section 377 of the IPC, according to which homosexuality is no longer a criminal offence. The move towards a more independent, more secular India, on its way to ensure the fundamental rights of its citizens. Since its amendment, people have actually started to change their perspective towards the LGBTQ+ communities. Earlier people used to alienate them and consider it as something violating the law and unparliamentary. But now since the law amendment has come into place, a majority of the people have started accepting these communities and their feelings. There are a number of self-sustaining organisations and NGO’s that are run by them and for them, and ever since 2018 a number of firms have started offering jobs to them and started accepting them as a part of our society. A number of LGBTQ+ support groups have been working in India now and they work towards addressing issues and concerns of these people. These groups organises a lot of events like film screenings book launches, workshops and talks where one can meet like-minded individuals, discuss issues relating to gender and sexuality and expand one’s horizon in ways unimaginable.
The LGBTQ+ community, for an awfully long time were alienated, tortured and mocked by our society. Now, the law and order system of India has finally heard their voice, but the situation in the societies is still the same and we have to travel a long distance to cope up with it. A number of people are still narrow minded and are unwilling to accept them into our society. But it is now unwinding that at least the Indian Law system does not consider them as people breaking the law. To people who still question the existence of LGBTQ+ communities, we are just questioning them on Being Human. I think that time has come to accept that their dreams, feelings and fear are just like ours. Remember it is natural, it is not a disease at all, it is from Birth, it is not done by choosing or deciding. Either me or even you could have been born with such a view of life. The first and foremost thing that one must realise is that there are more than just two genders that exist in the world. It is actually better to spend the rest of your life with someone from the same sex you love, rather from the opposite sex whom you don’t even like.
