SSMC,Bengaluru: Symbiosis School of Media & Communication hosted the induction event for the batch of 2016-18 on 6
th June 2016. It marked the inauguration of the 15 days induction module for the students of the new batch. The chief Guests were Ms Malavika Harita, CEO Saatchi & Saatchi Focus Network and Mr Zubair Ahmed, Senior Multilingual Journalist, BBC Delhi. The lighting of the lamp was done by the esteemed guests accompanied by the Director, Prof Vikram Sampath and the Deputy Director, Prof Ketan Vaidya. The students were welcomed by the seniors and the staff of the college. At the program, Prof. Vikram Sampath, the Director of SSMC-B, addressed the students on the importance of self-learning for the upcoming two years of their lives and few important announcements.
“We are happy to announce that this year we are starting with a new specialisation ‘Media Management’. Also, we have started building International relations, starting with the University of Queensland, where four students will be selected for 2 weeks long foreign exchange programme”, said Prof.Sampath. In her address to the students, Ms Malavika Harita, the chief guests explained the students the golden rules to survive these two rigorous years and come out with flying colours
. “Use these two years to learn about yourself. Do a SWOT analysis regularly as honestly as you can. Be like a sponge, absorb everything. Keep Learning”, said Ms Malavika Harita. She expressed the importance of communication and that no one was born communicators and it is a skill to be learnt. Furthermore, the chief guest Mr Zubair Ahmed spoke of the paradigm shift of typewriter to MacBook today. He also aimed in his speech to give a reality check about the outside world to the students.
“It is a big bad, cut-throat world outside. But if you are willing to have the adaptability and keeping your mind young, I think you will be ahead of the curve”, said Mr Ahmed. After the speech by the chief guests, the students were given a briefing about the library services, hostel rules & regulations, academics and examinations. Also, Photo Novella was introduced as an ice-breaking cum learning activity. For the next 10 days, some of the eminent speakers will be addressing the students on topics pertaining to the industry trends and also modules like Brand Communication, Public Relations & Marketing. Few of the names are Mr. Y.P.Rajesh, Dr. Shyam Bhat, Mr. Hemant Gaule, Mr. Prakash Belawadi, Ms.Ganga Ganapathi, Vasanthi Hariprakash, Sam Panchmukhi and the list goes on.
