My Summer Internship at Philips - Healthcare at Home has taught me far more than what I bargained for. I was an Operations Intern whose duties were diverse, dynamic and everchanging. The things that I have learnt in the past couple of months were so many – but I feel that they were some of the most beneficial lessons I have learnt both as a Management Student & as a Professional.
From the very first day of internship, Philips made me feel that I was not alone! I had a support system in place. Prior to this, I had a vague idea about where my career was going but now I have a far better understanding of what I am good at and where I should go. This internship has made me understand my strengths and skill sets.
At Philips, my key responsibility was to implement Six Sigma and Lean Process to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) & Training Manuals along with solving problems and workflow. I had to analyse the entire system! I learned how the entire healthcare division works & operates with an exploratory review of systems engineering concepts & application of these concepts in the area of Patients’ Treatment & Floor Modelling.
As an Intern, I was assigned a series of projects one after another. I had to see each one through. In order to this, I had to work and coordinate with colleagues from different departments & verticals. I also had an additional responsibility in the logistics team. One of the best aspects of this was the Field Visits where I accompanied the delivery personnel to deliver the devices and interact with patients.
My Internship in Philips taught me so many things about the Healthcare sector in India. I became comfortable working in teams because multidimensional teams are the building blocks of corporate success. My mentors and Philips were simply amazing. Its their guidance, mentoring, advise and help make this an experience of a lifetime!
