In that sense, the placement report is not very useful. It makes no mention of the exact roles. Even when IIM Ahmedabad comes out with the report after 6 months it will not have any mention of this. The IPRS format does not have a provision of revealing all companies. The funny thing is that many schools want us to add names of companies who do not even recruit a single student in their placement report, with IIM A we are always asking for more data. What the IPRS does is gives duly audited stipend and salary figures and we appreciate all schools who are a part of this exercise. However, whether the IPRS is doing enough to help students is a question that the makers of IPRS need to ask.
We will try our best to get you the comprehensive report in the InsideIIM format. However, given the past policy of IIM A it looks tough if we will get any more data than this.
Readers should be reminded about the dream company policy at IIM Ahmedabad where students are provided the flexibility of making a “dream” application to any firm of their choice in a subsequent cluster even with an offer in hand. This gives students the flexibility and choice to build careers in sectors of their preference. Please note that this is not allowed in most schools in India. In that sense, IIM A's policy is quite student friendly. We know of many other IIMs where you need to necessarily take the offer that you first get or among the companies on that day. Very few schools allow students to give a preference even among companies visiting on the same day.

Press Release for Cluster 3

The third cluster comprised five cohorts, which included Consumer Goods and Services companies, Core manufacturing companies, Management Consulting firms, Pharmaceutical companies, and Technology and Internet companies.
A total of over 25 firms made offers in this cluster. The key recruiters in the Consumer Goods and Services cohort included DFS India and InterGlobe Enterprises amongst others. Core manufacturing companies included firms like Rational AG and Tata Steel. The Management Consulting sector included KPMG and PwC Advisory amongst others. Pharmaceutical companies such as Abbott and GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Limited participated in this cluster. Companies in the Technology and Internet cohort included Arvind Internet and Infibeam. PwC India, Advisory division extended the highest number of offers in this cluster, with a total of 10 offers.

In Cluster two, IIM Ahmedabad saw recruiting from banking and financial services, FMCG, Technology and general management along with niche consulting roles including Feedback Infra and Hay Group. FMCG biggies like HUL, P&G, Nestle, ITC and Mondelez were present. They competed for talent with Indian conglomerates like Mahindra, TAS, as well as global technology majors like Amazon.
While the press release mentions that 40 firms recruited, the number of names disclosed is much smaller - only 13. The list of disclosed names doesn't include Aditya Birla Group and Google - two of the most popular recruiters at B schools.
There is an interesting trend that can be observed here. The
InsideIIM recruitment survey consistently reports Sales & Marketing as the most popular domain among MBA students. However, the first cohort (and therefore the most popular cohort) was not from Sales & Marketing - rather it was consulting firms, I-banks, PE and VC firms. What could this difference between reported and actual perception mean? Does it mean that everybody would love to get into a consulting role, but realize that they are not cut out for it, and are therefore happy to work in a Sales & Marketing role?
Keep watching this space for more updates.

The first cluster of IIM Ahmedabad Summer Placements for the Class of 2016 was held today. Consulting, I-Banks and PE/VC firms get the first shot at IIM A students in this cohort. BCG and Accenture Strategy are the top recruiters with 16 offers each. Goldman Sachs leads the I-Banks with 8 offers. Apart from this the press release has precious little to offer.
We understand that IIM A would not want to reveal the total number of offers as it would discourage recruiters in the subsequent cohorts to visit the campus but IIM A should release a bigger list of names of recruiters who recruited today. Having said that, IIM A is the
only campus to release information on a cohort day-wise basis. For a detailed report in the IPRS format, we will have to wait for 3 months. Even in that report, limited number of names are released.
