Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur has successfully completed its summer placements process for the class of 2016. Despite almost doubling in batch size, the batch of 2016 has had an outstanding summer internship process.
With 51 companies making 113 offers across various domains, the batch of 102 ended up with an average stipend of INR 58,100 and a highest stipend of INR 2,50,000. Compared to last year, there is a 25% jump in the highest stipend amount. The average stipend for the top 30% of the batch is INR 1,06,900 and 100% of the batch secured paid internships.
The industry wise break-up and student wise break-up is shown below. IT/ITES and Manufacturing sectors have continued to be major recruiters with FMCG and e-commerce following closely behind. 47% of the students have secured internships in marketing domain showing VGSoM’s strong presence in this domain as well.

Consulting & Analytics
Consulting has been the most preferred domain at VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur. Over the years, Consulting & Analytics industry has shown faith and recruited students in good numbers. Companies like
PricewaterhouseCoopers, Wipro, Cyient and IVIZ were the major recruiters offering profiles of
Technology and Business Consulting.
IT/ITES
With batch having high prior work experience in IT Sector, this sector has always preferred VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur as best place to hunt talent. Over the years, IT industry has shown faith and recruited students in good numbers. Industry big names included
Ericsson and
Siemens offering internship in the areas of
marketing and general management to our students.
Syntel offered
pre-sales/operations profile to the students and
InApp Technologies visited college for the first time and offered students role in
Strategy Management.
Banking & Financial Services
Major BFSI companies like
FIS Global, Reserve Bank of India and NABARD offered roles such as
credit finance, Mergers and Acquisitions, Financial analysis and Valuation in finance domain.
Reliance General Insurance offered the pivotal role of
investments to the students
FMCG, Consumer Durables, Logistics and Retail
Reputed FMCG firms have recruited the talented pool of students from this reputed B-School.
Big names included Reckitt Benckiser, Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd, Bluestar and Titan. The profiles offered were most desired ones like Sales & Marketing and Supply chain management. RPG Group (Spencer’s Retail Ltd) offered the coveted profile of General Management to our students. World’s Largest Shipping Corporation, Maersk Line participated and recruited summer interns offering Marketing roles.
Manufacturing and Automobile
Manufacturing sector has traditionally been the forte of VGSoM and this year was no different. Industry giants
Tata Motors offered
Marketing and Operations profiles. Other reputed companies like
Tega Industries, Praxair Group & Polaris offered roles in
ERP, Automation, Operations, Inventory Management, Marketing and Supply Chain Management. Also,
National Instruments and Schneider electric offered roles of
Marketing and Market research.
E-Commerce
Like every year, this year also saw growth in number of companies in E-commerce sector. Companies that recruited our students included
Amazon, RetailOn and Juspay Technologies Pvt Ltd to name a few, which offered roles of
Operations, Sales, Analytics and Digital Marketing. Social Communication app
WeChat offered roles in
Research & Development.
