As it happens in any of the premier B-Schools in the country, there are a diverse set of activities planned for the students. Many of the students owing to a gap of 1-2 months of leisure before they join a B-School, find it difficult to cope up with the hectic life of an MBA. Assignments, Projects, Quizzes etc. become the order of the day and it takes some time before we can adjust to them.
IIM Raipur is no different. Here, the students are challenged to put themselves to physical and mental extremes. (Yes, it is voluntary.) Such an acclimatization process often leads to sleepy students in the class.
Often it happens that some classes are sleepier for me than others. Like Microeconomics, where there is an emphasis on a structured flow of content. The content is extremely methodical which further aids our melatonin levels and helps to put us to sleep.
But I can never sleep in the Operations class. The structure of the curriculum is extremely interactive which can wake up even the sleepiest of us all. Our Professor ensures we are at our most alert selves!
The Professors are well apprised of the schedule of B-school Students and some of the encounters which they have with such sleepy students are often quite humorous.
One such situation occurred in my class a few days ago. It was an accounting class and we all had a sumptuous breakfast of Eggs, Cereals, Idlis, Coconut Chutney and Milk.
No sooner had the class began, then our eyelids started complaining. Yes, the ACs and the pleasant aesthetics of our classrooms helped a lot. Heads started bobbing. Our Hallucinations began. Our Accounting Professor, an IIMA FPM Scholar, noticed an unfortunate guy.
He said,” You Know what. There are 3 kinds of students I know. One whose monitor and CPU both stay switched on. The second, whose monitor is off and CPU is on. And finally, the most notorious ones, whose monitor is on but their CPU is switched off. You seem to belong to the second category, so I won’t say anything.
That was the most enlightening piece of advice I had ever heard. I began using it immediately, with my eyes closed and nodding my head gently, so that I could absorb the best of both worlds. And Voila !! Nobody notices me now. I might never sleep at all, study or party as much as I want and yet sleep through all my classes and absorb all my content !! Isn’t that cool?

Which ABG company you want to work for and Why?
I want to work for
Aditya Birla Retail Limited. It is because I want to be a participant in driving the food and grocery retail industry in India. I believe the Retail Arm of the Aditya Birla Group is the Backbone of the Indian Market, opening up revenue links for the farmers and providing them with proper and stable means of livelihood. I believe that the Aditya Birla Retail Group holds the most potential to transform our rural economy and I wish to be a part of it.
