An MBA aspirant but also passionate about sports? DMS, IIT D is the place for you!
First of all, the infrastructure is amazing; you have all that you need. Cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, hockey, squash, lawn tennis, badminton, table tennis, snooker, swimming, you name it IIT Delhi has it. For the fitness freaks among you, there is a gym at every hostel to maintain your muscle tone and an athletic track to put in the miles and build your stamina.
For the exceptional sportspersons, you have the chance to train and represent IIT Delhi at Inter-IIT Sports Meet held every year. This year the meet was held at IIT-Mumbai and our contingent has performed well. Plus, with the plethora of B-schools around the Delhi region, IIM-Rohtak, MDI-Gurgaon, IMT-Ghaziabad, FMS-Delhi, IIM-Kashipur, one can participate in B-school sports events and compete.
The Sports Committee at DMS is ever active and conducts sports activities on a regular basis. The first semester witnesses a competition between the seniors and the juniors, known as the IceBreaker! The second semester includes the cricket league (C2K- Cricket Ka Kurukshetra), football league (Ligue de DMS) and indoor sports competitions. C2K and the Ligue are exciting events as it tries to replicate an IPL like scenario, it includes the drama of the auction process and the jaw-dropping on-field performances of DMS star players, not to mention the intense sledging!
Additionally, for those who prefer to spectate and not to sweat it out, Delhi provides them requisite opportunities. The home matches of Delhi Daredevils and Delhi Dynamos are a must watch and both the stadia are easily accessible. At this year’s ISL edition, the chance to catch Alessandro Del Piero, Luis Garcia, Robert Pires and Freddie Ljunberg in action at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was surreal. The inaugural edition of IPTL had a leg at Delhi, with Novak facing off against Roger Federer being the highlight. The Buddh International Circuit is also not far away; hoping that the logjam over the Indian F1 clears up soon and we can catch some racing action. Furthermore, when you are short on finances you can stream the matches or catch it in the TV rooms at every hostel. You will never miss any piece of action!
Life during an MBA is hectic but it isn’t an excuse if you are passionate and crazy about sports!
