Tushar is a research-oriented person and is an ex-entrepreneur. This start-up experience made him realize his lack of knowledge, so he started pursuing his MBA at IIM Calcutta. He has published 7 research papers in Machine Learning and Data Science during his undergrad studies in computer science. Having a solid technical background, he has been active in exploring algorithmic trading to amalgamate this technical expertise in finance. He is fascinated by the latest happenings in the start-up ecosystem because of his past experience and aspires to gain experience in PE/VC firms to delve deeper into the industry. Tushar Sarkar tackles problem-solving by breaking down issues into atomic parts and understanding the underlying reasons. He emphasizes simplicity and iteratively evaluates solutions. In a project at Mettler Toledo, he improved invoice amount extraction accuracy from 67% to 95% by eschewing complex ML techniques and relying on programming logic. Handling failure involves detachment and learning. Tushar shares an experience with a startup program that wasn't well-received. Reading "The Lean Startup" made him realize the importance of user feedback and addressing core problems. Applying learnings, they are now developing a new MVP. In an ethical decision at work, Tushar's team chose the modest market based on their values instead of copying a competitor for a larger market. This decision aligned with their company's principles. Negotiating for a Data Science council at his college involved facing criticism. After an unsuccessful pitch, Tushar and his team organized an event, gathered feedback, and presented data on the impact they could create. This approach gained approval from the department, principal, dean, and university campus administrator. Tushar believes he deserves to be one of India's Most Promising Incoming MBA Students due to his diverse experiences, from ML research and financial automation to starting a startup. His ability to connect different dots and his willingness to take risks for learning and exploration set him apart.
