The present-day business world is characterized by continuously proliferating disruption. Adapting to disruption has become a part of life. To thrive in the choppy waters of rapid technological changes and business model upheavals while proving your mettle requires no small measure of a clear vision and clarity of purpose. Great breakthroughs have been accomplished by defying habits and conventions. It is against this backdrop that Purvodaya - the annual B-school fest of the Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur is set to roll out. The central theme - “Think the Unthinkable” lends a relatable tone to the event as we enter a new decade filled with endless possibilities. The three-day affair which marks the culmination of various competitions and challenges in the domains of consulting, analytics, finance, supply chain management, and social entrepreneurship is set to kick off on 31st January 2020. With participation from top B-schools all over the country, the preliminary rounds have triggered the process of ideation and are geared to witness the sharpest MBA minds vie for the final prize. Talks and discussions from eminent business and corporate leaders are spaced throughout the duration of the fest.

Agile leaders who can not only navigate complex times with the right response but thrive in the face of uncertainty are indispensable assets to any organization. The conventional definition of a business leader has evolved through these times to encompass a mature understanding of leadership. As has been its tradition, the Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur plays its part in catalyzing this evolution with two flagship events - Leadership Summit and Reminiscence. Conducted as part of Purvodaya, the Leadership Summit sees a conglomeration of prominent business leaders and industry stalwarts gather to deliberate on the challenges and opportunities in the current corporate landscape. Reminiscence is a rendezvous of illustrious alumni who share their experiences with the current students.

The last edition of the Leadership Summit held on 2nd February 2019 revolved around the topic ‘Remodelling India Inc. – Leading businesses in the VUCA Age’. The leaders were unanimous in stating that the chaos of VUCA is inescapable but expressed great optimism about the country’s prevailing business climate.

Invigorated by the success of its previous editions, the Leadership Summit is all set to go live on 1st February 2020, at IIT Kharagpur. This year, the summit will feature dynamic leaders from different realms of industry deliberate on the theme of the fest - “Think the Unthinkable”.

The insights from the discussions on the topic of “Leaders today: The tryst between disruption and convention” will have a significant impact on the future leaders of the country as they prepare themselves to embrace the intricacies of the complex world out there. The outcome of this thought-exercise will be a rich and well-rounded view of the subtleties involved in excelling in the corporate world. As the budding managers of the institute get ready to carve their place in the corporate arena, these nuggets of wisdom will aid their progress. The confluence of thoughts and ideas that are bound to emanate from the summit will prove to be critical in redefining effective and efficient leadership in this age of disruption.

With the fest just a few days away, the excitement on campus reaches a feverish pitch as everyone readies themselves for an unforgettable learning experience.
