Amidst the major global leaders whose voices at Indore reverberated at the Global Investors Summit in the city, a few voices in the same city received an ovation at the
Voice of Indore, popularly known as VOI, a flagship event hosted by the Indian Institute of Management Indore. The upcoming annual management and cultural fest of IIM Indore, IRIS 2014 is already gaining momentum and the hues could be seen at the round of VOI auditions that were conducted at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore on 10th October 2014.
The crescendo of voices met with the melodies of students from institutes like IIT, Medi-Caps Institute of Science and Technology, CDGI, Maharaja Ranjit Singh College, etc. The mix of old, new and self composed raps added a unique flavour to the auditions of the shortlisted candidates from their respective colleges. The contestants were judged by Anuja Zokarkar, who has aced Indian classical music with her upbringing in a musical family under the discipline of renowned vocalist Vidushi Kalpana Zokarkar, her mother. Anuja, a silver-medal winner at All India Radio in 2010, has also given voice to some commercial albums. Her accomplishment as a singer for a Marathi movie ‘Baabu Band Baaja’ that was felicitated with the best movie at Pune International Film festival made her a judge the right choice to judge a competition where she could connect with the young college audience.
The commencement of the program saw participants in full vigour with
sur and
taal in perfect match. “It was a unique experience for an IIT to be associated with such an IIM at a large scale...” said Aditi, a contestant who added her melody to the event. The top three winners from this zone of auditions would meet at the finale event of VOI to be held during the fest on 13th-15th November this year. The day ended with a beautiful vocal rendition by judge Anuja, who sang on special request by the huge audience after she shared her insights about the event and music. The curtains for the day closed on a tune that certainly foretells some tough competition ahead.
