Debabrata Das graduated as an architect. A student of Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi, he found the city a great place to study architecture in. But 5 years of graduation later, Debabrata realised he had another interest area. He wanted to get into the construction, project management side of things and learn how to work those P&L books. This motivated him to write CAT in 2018. But with a 98%ile, Debabrata was unhappy. He decided to redo CAT in 2019. With some planning, practice and strategy, Debabrata managed to score a 99.58%ile in CAT 2019 and convert a call from MDI Gurgaon! In this video he tells us his winning strategy to tackle the actual CAT paper, how much time he spent on different sections, how he selected questions to answer, etc. If you’re in your last mile to CAT prep for CAT 2020, this is a must watch for you!

Summary
In this video, Debabrata takes us through his reasons for pursuing an MBA. He talks about his interest in architecture and business and draws parallels between the 2 disciplines. He shares just how he prepared for CAT. As a non engineer, it took Debabrata longer to crack the CAT, given the competition the exam is subject to. He shares how engineers can prepare in less time while non engineers need more time to prepare for CAT.

Next, Debabrata tells us how he divided the CAT paper not only into the 3 major sections that VA-RC, LR-DI and Quants, but also into subsections for each section. He shares how he prepared for each and gives some tips on how aspirants too can gain from his experience. Next he takes us through his strategy to solve the CAT paper. Right down to timing himself for every question, Debabrata planned it all. Find out his successful strategy in this video! Further, Debabrata shares what to focus on a few days and a few hours before CAT. He tells us how a good CAT score is just one aspect of getting into a good b-school. You might not make it to a top b-school even with a 99%ile if your profile is not adequate. He advises one to not not get complacent and keep the momentum of preparation going even after CAT. If you’re writing CAT 2020, this is a must watch for you!

Key Takeaways
- CAT is actually a paper broken in smaller sub-sections, not just VA-RC, DI-LR & Quant.
- People from an engineering background can prep for CAT in 4-6 months, but for non engineers, it could go up to a year.
- Focusing on the right stuff is really important for CAT takers in the week before D-Day.
- A week, a few days before CAT, is time to decide your strategy.
- Revise your CAT Strategy one day before D-Day!
