We, at CEO and Industry Integration Committee (CIIC), are a student-driven committee of SPJIMR working with the aim to keep students connected to the industry during their academic period. In line with our motto, “Integrate, Learn, Grow”, we work towards both, bringing the industry to the campus and at the same time taking the students to the industry, for exposure to real world scenarios, learning wider perspectives and growing multi-dimensionally.  We are a team of 12 enthusiastic PGDM 1st-year students and two highly experienced faculty mentors Prof. R. Jayaraman and Prof. Ratika Gore, who bring with them extensive industry experience, guiding the team with their real world insights. Our journey hitherto has brought a plethora of managerial learnings and impactful instances of ‘influencing without power’ during our events at SPJIMR. As part of our CEO Talk Series, we invited 2 prominent leaders, who have been immensely successful in their business arenas. First, CEO and Founder of BookMyShow Mr. Ashish Hemrajani, who gave insights about the start-up environment with a focus on how the business has continually adapted to survive in today’s world. Second, the Chief Marketing Officer of Procter and Gamble, India, Ms. Sonali Dhawan who brought to the session, a whole new level of energy and enthusiasm through many real-life examples of marketing successes and failures. We also conducted two visits to manufacturing plants of leading Indian automobile companies Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors – both in Pune. These visits helped participants grasp the scale of operations in plants, the practical issues that are faced on a daily basis and the decision-making that happens on the ground. Production of vehicles ranging from small passenger cars to large commercial trucks and the stringent tests that they go through before they arrive at our shores, all the elements of these visits were exciting experiences for most of the students who had not visited a manufacturing plant earlier. Other than interactions with industry, we also tap into the extensive in-house knowledge base that is available to us in the form of faculty and their diverse work experiences. For this, we conduct focused ‘faculty-connect’ interviews and share the knowledge tit-bits with the students from the batch. While industry knowledge is our forte, we also launched a new initiative this year – ‘The Raven from CIIC’, a monthly newsletter whose design is inspired from the popular show ‘Game of Thrones’. The USP of Raven is its unique style of presenting news, filled with quirky and attention grabbing headlines.  Our team under the guidance of faculty makes sure that students realise the real world relevance of concepts learned in class.  While everything mentioned above was ‘what we do’, there is a larger effort base that goes into ‘how we do’ them. The popular ‘dry-runs’ of CIIC are one of the key reasons behind us executing events flawlessly every time. These, combined with various decisions taken under pressure, and continuous feedbacks from faculty and within the group, help us all develop our skill sets and personalities holistically. The experience of working in CIIC leaves us nothing short of realising how CEOs work. To put it in a nutshell, we in CIIC try to make the CEO's of today meet with the potential CEO's of tomorrow.
