Before appearing for an interview to convert the call from any IIM, one question that the candidates must be clear about is, “Why does he/she want to join that IIM?” Focusing on this question, this article covers the response to the question – “Why IIM Indore?” This article will give you a perspective on how you can actually frame the answer when you're asked the same in your IIM Indore interview! Read on.

1. Rankings and Accreditations:

As per the latest Outlook-Icare India MBA rankings, IIM Indore has been placed at number 4, behind IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad, and IIM Calcutta. This ranking evaluates the top public MBA institutes on the basis of four parameters – Research, Employability, Faculty Quality, Inclusiveness & Diversity. As per the World Quacquarelli Symonds (World QS) Global MBA Rankings 2020, IIM Indore has been placed in the 101+ band, and among other Indian B-schools, it is at number 4, behind IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta. This ranking ranks B-schools across 4 categories – Business Analytics, Finance, Management and Marketing. When it comes to NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) MBA Rankings, as of 2019, IIM Indore is in the 5th position, behind IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta, and IIM Lucknow. In addition to that, IIM Indore is accredited by EQUIS for three years, making it the second business school in India to receive the Triple Crown with AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS Accreditations. Also, it has been re-accredited by AMBA for five years, the maximum possible period.

2. Network-building in IIM Indore:

With the largest batch size across all IIMs, a candidate is exposed to a wide network of students to interact with, all of whom have different educational as well as cultural backgrounds and one learns to appreciate the myriad of opinions one can get on any topic. That being said, it is not just the one batch that the candidate can reach out to. With greater batch size, comes a wider alumni base one can reach out to. This helps in network-building, which is one of the major aspects of an MBA course.

3. Industry Interaction:

IIM-I understands the importance of providing real-time exposure to the industry dynamics and hence values its industry interaction. This year an industry interaction program was instituted for the first year students wherein they regularly visited industries in and around Indore. During the program that spanned three terms, the students were allocated industry-specific projects. Besides, a prudent mix of technical workshops, business workshops by corporates and guest lectures by industry veterans keeps the students updated with the realities of the business world. 4. Faculty: IIM Indore currently has about 90 full-time faculty members on its rolls. This faculty strength coupled with a vibrant Fellow programme makes it an ideal place for academic pursuits. Faculty is excellent. The level of class interaction and concept communication is definitely above what you used to have in graduate college. The feedback mechanism helps wherein any constructive feedback is incorporated in the course design swiftly. The variety of subjects offered is also good with there being something for everyone.

5. Alumni

Alumni from IIM Indore are ruling the roost in the industry, be it working for the biggest organisations or being successful in their own ventures. Current and prospective students get a chance to interact with alumni at events organised by the Student Activity Council of IIM Indore (like Rendezvous and Footprints).

6. Infrastructure:

IIM Indore has a sprawling 200-acre campus to accommodate the largest batch size across all IIMs. Great hostel accommodation, excellent sports facilities, and world-class academic facilities – it has them all. It also boasts of an 800-seater auditorium – one of the largest among all IIMs. In addition to that, the IIM Library is a three-storeyed building that has access to the best of the databases.

7. Placements:

Let’s face it – Every MBA candidate might have a few key takeaways he/she hopes to have by the end of an MBA course, and one of the major takeaways is a good placement. IIM Indore’s placement scenario has been stellar. Even with huge batch size, there has never been any compromise on the placement front. As of 2019, for a batch of 607 students, the highest salary has been Rs.89.25 LPA and the average salary is Rs.20.79 LPA. The highest domestic salary in 2019 is Rs.40.5 LPA. 200+ recruiters participated in the placement process with more than 50% of the batch being placed in two of the most coveted domains such as Consulting and Finance. All those points are indicative of the fact that IIM Indore indeed provides a great platform for any candidate to be groomed into a successful business leader, thus making it one of the most coveted B-schools of India.
