Which is your Current B-School? XLRI Jamshedpur
B-School To Which The Interview Experience Pertains?  XLRI Jamshedpur
Please Share A Brief About Your Profile Shazia did her B.Tech from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Post that she gained 2 years of Management Consulting experience from ZS Associates. Shazia has been a scholarship and a rank holder throughout her life. She joined the HRM program of XLRI Jamshedpur (2021-2023). Apart from work and academics, Shazia is also very passionate about sports and has been a State level Volleyball player during her school days.
Please Share Your Interview Experience P1 - What did you do during graduation other than studying? Me - Mentioned my passion for sports. How there are annual inter-faculty sports championships held every year and I was the winner of the badminton championship all 4 years of my graduation. Also, mentioned that during my school days I was a State level Volleyball and Badminton player P1 - And now you're working at ZS Associates? Was it a campus placement? Are you still working there? Me - Yes, it was a campus placement. I'm still working at ZS and I have mostly been doing Market Research projects. P2 - You must have given an interview for ZS? What did you like about it? What have you prepared for today based on learnings from that interview? Me - Told him that I was able to secure 3 campus placements but made the conscious choice of joining ZS since working there required a good mix of both qualitative and quantitative skills (and not just technical skills), the type of work involves management and client interaction even at entry-level positions, which gives people good exposure and networking opportunities. Told him that in terms of preparations for today - I have reflected back upon my past experiences - what went well, what could have been better, what learnings I can use if something similar happens in the future. Also, one of the learnings from my ZS interview is that we should try to be well informed about the company/college/position we're applying for. P1 - Do you then have an idea about XL and its HRM subjects? Me - I did go through the XL website and the list of HRM subjects. I have also observed the type of work HR people do at my office. P1 - How often do you talk to HRs at your company? Me - Very often. Each employee at ZS is assigned a Professional Development coach who is an HR specialist. PD coaches help employees in tracking their work trajectory in the company. P1 - You obviously have a lot of achievements in sports, why don't you pursue something in that field? Me - I believe it's too late to pursue a career in that line. Could have been possible had I made my mind about it during my school days. In school time you get ample opportunities in the form of U17, U19, U21 events. Also, I've only played at the state level and not at the national level, so there are still a lot more people who are better at badminton and volleyball than me P2 - State-level achievements are still very huge, you should be proud of yourself. Do you still play these sports? Me - Not since the WFH situation. But in the office, I have played and also won the company level badminton and table tennis competitions. However, I haven't been able to keep up with volleyball. P2 - Do you agree that volleyball is not as popular in India as cricket or football? Me - Absolutely agree with your point, sir. One interesting piece of information - Volleyball is the 5th most popular sport in the world behind football, cricket, tennis, and hockey (even ahead of badminton, tt, etc.); however, it's not considered one of the mainstream sports in India P2 - How can we rectify that? Me - Government can start by providing more funds P2 (interrupted) - I'm looking for a more holistic approach, and at different levels. What if govt allocates crores of money but still nobody watches volleyball! Me - We can start with building volleyball courts at schools. Currently, schools have badminton, basketball courts but not volleyball courts. Schools should also have separate coaches for volleyball as they have for athletics, etc. At a national level, we can have premiere leagues for volleyball and have celebrities advertise for it as they do for IPL. P2 - People can also make movies like Dangal. Me - Exactly sir! P2 - But movies like Dangal are made because there are people winning at sports like wrestling, etc. Me - Sir, people are winning at various state, national, international level volleyball events too, they are just not being highlighted. P2 - What is your favorite topic in Maths? Me - I like percentages and ratios because that's what I used at work too. P2 - But even 10 std students can do that. Come on, you are an engineer! Me - Sir I also like differentiation, integration. P3 - Recently there was news of a dispute between Saina Nehwal and her coach. Don't you think sports is bigger than these little arguments? Me - Conflicts are bound to arise whenever there is a difference of opinion. As far as players like Saina Nehwal are concerned, they have represented India at various international events, even Olympics. And it is possible for her to think that her demand and requirements must be given priority, it's only human nature. And as far as conflicts are concerned, they are bound to arise but there are also different ways in which they can be resolved. P3 - Such as? Me - Active listening and researching, compromising, ignoring, involvement of a formal mediator. Panel: That’s all, thank you! All the best, you may log off now.
