Whenever one faces a challenge, there are two choices in front of the person, first is to face it, swim through and get over it while the other is to turn your back and try to avoid the challenge at hand. It is well said that it’s all about the decisions we take at that challenging point that leads us to the next phase of the life and the choices we make or the decisions we take changes our lives & the way we see towards it.

One year back when I joined IIM Raipur, I was equally excited and nervous at the same time; excited for starting off a new journey and accomplishing one dream and nervous because unlike me and some more people out here was a pool of people who were having a work experience which I personally considered to be having an add-on for any leap forward from a B-School. Achieving something out here was totally dependent on the hard work we were ready to do and the perseverance we were ready to show because life at a B-School specially at an IIM demands to be on toes and work off limits.

During September, half of the batch got selected as a team for one of our college events which is a marathon held every year with participants and runners across India. The first challenge out there was that I got into a sub-team other than my choice and the next was to be able to hold a place in the core team that was going to be selected for the next year where the selection ratio was 3: 11. At that point I made a choice to go on with whichever sub-team I got selected for and to make the most out of it by giving my best. I made the best use of all the suggestions given by my seniors and being active as much as possible. At first, I stumbled at many instants and took many wrong steps too but then with the time I learnt how it was meant to be done. Managing the time between classes, assignments, competitions and activity-club works made a fresher like me also to learn some of the skills. Finally, after the efforts of the whole team for 3 and half months the event was a success and I got selected as the co-coordinator of the next edition of the marathon. The decisions I took and the feat I got instilled me with a self-confidence and a learning for the times coming ahead that in the end it’s the attitude to keep going is what matters the most and takes one to heights.

Aditya Birla Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate having business across more than 20 sectors. Right from banking to telecom, branded apparel to chemical. This kind of diversity in an organization excites me as there is plethora of opportunities available and this kind of diversification allows us to learn and broaden our horizon.

One sector of ABG which I always look forward to is Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, which is India’s first Billion-dollar pure-play fashion powerhouse. The way this line of business has expanded itself and made itself one of the top apparel brands of India is truly incredible. Recent consolidation of Pantaloons in Aditya Birla group increased its popularity in the market. This consolidation has created a synergy which is going to act as the nucleus of the future of the fashion business in India. This line caters to all classes of Indian society. There is variety for everyone right from teen age group to working professionals to athleisure wear. ABFRL also has some of the premium brands like Van Heusen, Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Peter England etc. ABFRL presents a perfect and diverse flare of women fashion where the brands like Forever 21 caters to style and elegance, Liva caters to the ethnic fashion at its best whereas women have got to celebrate with the recently launched Allen Solly Women’s exclusive range of office formals. What truly amazes me about these brands is how Aditya Birla has successfully created a mindset of imported brand in the minds of we Indians.
