This Happened Inside The IIM Indore Classroom

A role play about a company founder and his CXO’s was being conducted in our classroom. But what’s so memorable about a role play. Tons of role plays are done across business schools in India. What makes this one memorable? – The answer – It was more than a role play. The case was about a toy company which is facing some problems as a kid died by swallowing a small piece of the toy. After being handed their role descriptions, the play proceeded as expected.

After a while, a few “protesters” (we later found out they were actors hired by our professor) suddenly entered the classroom and started pushing the team around, yelling, demanding justice. It was no more a role play because neither the team nor the rest of the students knew what was going on. After they were sent away, our professor asked us to review the way the team was handling the situation (death of a kid) before and after the protesters barging in. How did each of the CXO react? What did the founder – the leader of the group do? What was the reaction of the head of PR? It is one thing to teach crisis management using a PPT but, a simulation of this level is something else. It was a memorable lesson in crisis management indeed.

Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?

I would want to work for Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail. Working in India’s largest pure-play Fashion and Lifestyle Company would give me a unique opportunity to learn and progress towards my career goals. Brick and mortar stores combined with an e-commerce presence would give me insights on omnichannel management and consumer behaviour, topics which are of deep interest to me. Exposure to various Brands would also give me unparalleled experience in Brand Management, which as a Marketing student, is something I look for in a company. In conclusion, I’d like to work for ABFRL on account of learning and growth opportunities that only ABFRL can offer.
