On a total score of 1000, IIM Calcutta scored 897.2, pipping IIM Ahmedabad by a mere 0.1 point (897.1). IIM Ahmedabad (IIMA) topped three of the five primary parameters this year, and IIMC topped in the other two. But it was IIMC’s big score in future orientation that finally helped it topple the perennial favourite for the first time.
This year's survey saw the debut of IIM Lucknow, which finished at No. 4, behind IIM Bangalore. IIM Lucknow's debut with 879.5 points resulted in SPJIMR Mumbai slipping a rank as compared to the previous year's rankings. Although IIM Bangalore's rank was the same as the previous year, its overall score has improved over last year (885.2 points as compared to 876.1 points). Interestingly, seven out of the top ten positions were taken by government institutes.
The Top 5 B-Schools Across The 5 Parameters
Return On Investment
In terms of salary trends, top schools have seen little difference between the average salaries offered on campus this year compared to last year. The top 10 B-schools saw an increase of 4% in the average salaries offered, while the rest of the colleges in the Top 100 saw less than 1% jump in salaries. Course fees increased at the top B-schools, meanwhile, have increased by 3-4%. Not surprisingly, government institutes that have lower fees have shown much higher ROI for students investing in B-school education. The average ROI of government schools in the top 100 is 1.42, and for private schools, the number is 0.8.
ROI is calculated as the Average Annual Domestic salary/Course fees (Tuition fee + Other fees) for the entire course. The institute that had the highest RoI of the 305 that participated in the survey was Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, the University of Delhi, which had an astounding ROI of 33.3. This was followed by Aligarh Muslim University (ROI of 14.09), FMS Delhi (13.54), MS Patel Institute of Management Studies, Vadodara (13.0), and SIMSREE (Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, Research & Entrepreneurship Education, Mumbai, with RoI of 8.97).
