PEOPLE
Firstly, the faculty and the administrative people of IIM Trichy has always made me feel at ease. The depth of knowledge of the faculties is second to none. What makes them even more special is how they cater to each student and address their problems at an individual level. Giving individual attention in a class of 60 students is a humongous task, which our faculty address in a very structured and effective manner such that no one is left out. This style of facilitating our learning helps all the students to be in the same page. Also, for academically weaker students special care is taken by faculty by prior appointment which shows they go the extra mile only for us. Academic integrity is a special part of our studies here and faculty take extra care to inculcate the habit engrained within each student. This translates in later part of corporate life as being ethical in our work. The administration of IIM Trichy always takes for the benefit of the students. Conducting day to day activities and maintaining the decorum of a prestige institute like IIM requires special dedication which the administrative team of IIM Trichy has always shown.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Secondly, we are the first batch to have started our journey in IIM Trichy from the new campus. The new campus with its start of the art facilities make a heaven to live in. The single sharing room dormitories helps us to have a good night’s sleep after a hard day’s work. The library comprises world class journals and books which is a faithful friend for any student of IIM Trichy. The sports facilities help us to indulge in light hearted sports to break from the heavy packed academic schedule. In short, the facilities provided to us help us feel at home in spite of the daily challenges.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
IIM Trichy has always focussed on improving the student’s overall personality and has not been restrained only by academic focus. The institute pays equal importance to other co-curricular activities. The faculty give special classes for students to prepare for business case competitions. Special guest lectures from industry stalwarts help us keep informed about how the industry is evolving. The guest lectures are designed in such a manner that it helps in enhancing our subject knowledge as well as getting updated about how each drivers of the industry are currently affected. As a budding manager, I feel these types of discussions would help me prepare for the future in a more practical manner. Regular institutional cultural programs help students to improve on their personality development along with academics.
SUPPORT SYSTEM
Finally, despite being more 2000 kms away from home there has been never a moment where I have felt left out. My friends and IIM Trichy family has always been there to support me in times of high and low. When I scored the winning goal in football finals of Sangram, the support and cheering I received from the stands made me feel a superstar. On the other hand, the institute has arranged for counselling services for students to cope up with extreme situations of frustration/despair. The counselling services are conducted by highly trained professionals to help the students gain confidence in themselves. My batchmates are supportive in whatever endeavours taken up, either morally or in person. Group studies, discussions help weaker students to cope up with the pressure.
Also, frequent parties in night canteens among the students always ensure you are never away from home.
To conclude I would say IIM Trichy has been a blessing for me. Being part of such a prestigious institute gives me a sense of pride. There are many other factors small or big which make IIM Trichy a special place to be a part of.
ULTRATECH CEMENT – “MY CHOICE”
I would like to be a part of Ultratech Cement if given the opportunity for obvious reasons. They are the largest cement manufacturer in India with 97 million tonnes production capacity per annum. Over the years Ultratech Cement has shown tremendous growth potential and acquired big players of this industry such as L&T Cement, Narmada Cement Company Limited, Samruddhi Cement, Adhunik Cement’s Meghalaya plant.
Recently Ultratech Cement decided to acquire the 13.4 MTPA capacity cement business of Century Textiles and Industries. It has a huge consumer base across India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE, Bahrain. What sets it apart from its competitors is that it offers not just building materials but a package of building solutions.
This translates as a huge value proposition when viewed from the customer’s point of view. By catering to such a diverse customer set, Ultratech has built a brand image of itself in the manufacturing sector. By being part of such a big player in the industry it will help me to understand the nuances of each value chain activity ranging from marketing, logistics, sales, procurement, etc. This would in turn help me to implement my theoretical knowledge in a more structured manner in a practical environment.
Also, Ultratech Cement Limited owns most of the limestone mines in India. Due to this attribute, it has a comfortable advantage over new entrants. Further, it can satisfy various customer demands due to its diverse product portfolio. Ultratech Cement in spite being in this industry, plays equal importance for the environment and social projects. They are among the first users of alternative fuel usage, waste heat recovery, etc. for the sustainability of the environment. By focusing on various types of ecological management projects like using waste as energy resource, energy management, water management, etc. Ultratech Cement Limited maintains the equilibrium in the ecosystem.
It would be a moment of pride to be working in such a company who pays special attention for these environmental factors in such a competing market. According to my research, I have found that Ultratech Cement’s work culture comprises hierarchy and protocols. This resonates well with me as I believe a structured direction is necessary before starting any work. Thus, I feel Ultratech Cement is the best fit as an organisation for me.
