A company which started in 1857 and now operates in 35 countries has touched millions of lives, be it through their diverse range of products right from the brand synonymous with cement, UltraTech Cement or something like the Carbon Black, the largest manufacturer in the world, is used in tyres. Hindalco is also the world’s largest aluminium rolling company and is also the leading producer of copper.
We are so dependent upon ABG products, that it is impossible to imagine a world without them. Be it small or big, ABG has played a crucial role in my life and will continue to do so.
How have I overcome challenges in my life to reach my goal
“Fortuna Favet Fortibus” in Latin or “Fortune Favours the Brave” in English. This proverb has not only been the motto for several the United States Naval Academy batches but also holds important significance in my life. Many times, we choose to let go and return to our comfort zone but sometimes it’s the resilience within us which doesn’t buckle down. It forces us to face the storm. One such example is of my sales experience in an unknown part of the country.
I, Danish a fresh graduate out of college with no prior experience in sales was sent to a third-tier city of Warangal in Telangana to take charge of the local dealership. The challenges were enormous, starting from the fact that I didn’t speak or understand Telugu and the people around me didn’t speak Hindi. The only language we conversed in was broken and it-depends-upon-your-interpretation English. To add to my woes, I couldn’t find a decent place to stay in and had to stay in a single BHK at quite a deserted place from the city. But more importantly, it was the continuously falling Market Share in that region that worried me.
I had a task cut out in front of me. Being a polite person, I had to make tough calls and be strict on the dealership team knowing I was dependent upon them due to my language and geographical limitations. I had faced a lot of resistance from the team on making the work hours more stringent and on heavily monitoring them. But almost a month later, my efforts did bear fruit. Not only did we sell more vehicles the following month but we also converted two of the competition’s customers. I could have easily given up under pressure but I stood firm and continued to face the tide. After staying there for a few months, I was again transferred back to the location of my choice. I have, since then shifted many locations but the city of Warangal holds a special place in my heart.
