Extempore forms a crucial part of the FMS Delhi interviews. It accounts for 5% of final composite score marks. Additionally, the confidence with which you speak and the content can drive the rest of the interview. Like WAT, giving a proper structure is essential for extempore. There are time constraints as well which adds to the challenge. In this blog, we have shared a few FMS Extempore tips and topics that will help you to better your extempore section before your interviews.

Tips for a Better Extempore
- Understand that extempore is impromptu. Unless factual (related to your profile or you) it does not need to be true. You should be able to bring out your creative side and knowledge and speak in a structured manner. You can start with your personal life experience/ quote from a book/ movie/ reading and go ahead.
- Topics related to you/ your profile should include you. It would leave a better impact if you include your events in it.
- Abstract topics are there to test your creativity and thinking under pressure when you don’t know much about the topic. Following a structure and explaining different sides is also difficult. Here you can start with random facts/ stories and explore different sides to them. For example, for Blue Moon- If you know about the moon you can state the occurrence, if not you can divert it in a totally different direction like- “How weird it is, the way things have been named in the past. Blue moon which is a periodic occurrence does not actually reflect the color blue of the moon” and then go about it.

FMS Extempore Tips Topics: The Structure of Extempore
The structure of an extempore is quite similar to the WAT/AWT writing. The best practice is always to break it into “Introduction, Favour/ Para 1, Against/Para 2, and Conclusion”. You will have 1-2 minutes to speak all of these. If you are still not comfortable with timed speaking, you have a little over 3 weeks to prepare for your interviews. Practice with a timer on these above-mentioned topics, your state, city, and college to articulate your thoughts in under two minutes. Learn to keep an estimation of time so you can give your conclusion before they interrupt you.
