5 Reasons Why Working In A Startup Is A Good Idea After Your MBA

Enrolling in a B-school is one of the greatest decisions of life. Reasons to join an MBA program are many. While some want to have a progression in career, some want career shift. For some, it is the Business acumen and knowledge gained. The most important of all is the self-growth, the ability to make decisions with limited information, the ability to execute, to build empathy and leadership skills and the most vital part is learning the art of networking.

The skills that you get at a B-school take you to the success ladder in the corporate world. But how about startups? Is it a good idea to work in a startup after your MBA?

Working in a startup is always questioned for job security, returns, and growth, but its benefits can really help you go a long way. Here are a few of the key benefits:

1: Responsibility: The limited number of employees in a startup means more shared responsibilities. The application of learnings from the B-schools to solve the challenges will be a lot earlier than those who enter the corporate world.

2: Fast Learning: The more the exposure to a different set of challenges in a startup, the more one learns from the experiences of solving them. There is no better way to learn than from the vast experiences one gets during working in a startup.

3: Get to work with the most innovative minds: The startup co-founders are extremely innovative individuals who have started a company to solve a problem through different and novel ways. Working with them could help to explore more and become creative along with being original at the same time. It’s like looking at the other side of the picture and developing an approach to things in a very different way.

4: Work Environment: The startup teams are closely knit teams. The main driver in any startup is the zeal to achieve. Such zeal and enthusiasm is usually missing in the  corporate world.

5: Key Decision Maker: As an MBA graduate, they are required to take key decisions about business operations, culture, financing, marketing which are normally taken by very senior executives in a corporate.

Working in a startup is not an easy job. Working in a startup is a way of life. But remember where there is no pain, there is no gain. Startups do take a lot of dedication and rigour but the experience gained there will be at par as compared to working in the corporate world.
