ABG - The Rising Sun
There is no denying in the fact that Aditya Birla Group is one of the leading conglomerate and the rising sun of the Indian corporate scenario. With its brand spanning from Construction to telecommunication and from metals to textile, ABG has covered it all, brining the vast variety of sectors under its spectrum. Also being in the big league of fortune 500 ,spanning over 34 nations and having a worth of $ 44.3 billion it is a strong business force to be reckoned with.
Let’s look into some of its flagships and see how it impacts the societies around it. Globally, ABG is numero uno in Aluminium rolling, viscose staple fibres and carbon black. This scaling up of this Indian giant leaves a mark on the corporate word map. Also if one looks at its presence in Indian market only, the way it has scaled up is praiseworthy and to be honest it’s difficult to point out a sector where it hasn’t made its presence felt.
In the cement industry it has provided an affordable but at the same time a durable alternative, “Ultra Tech cement”. It’s preferred by most of the architects and are used in majority of real estate projects and mega projects like bridges or dams. So in a way one can say that they are literally laying down the foundation on which the modern India is constructing itself.
A glance in the telecom industry will show the same picture. Vodafone Idea limited, with its fast 4G network along with competitive pricing have levelled the playing field in the sector, benefiting the consumers with fast yet affordable telephony experience.
Also the group’s scaling up in lifestyle and apparel sector is arguably one of the things that has got us millennial worked up. From top notch brands like Allen Solly, Louis Phillipe and Van Heusen to more affordable clothing at Pantaloons, ABG has covered it all. For a fun fact, Allen Solly after getting acquired by the group in 2001 became the first ever Indian brand to introduce work fashion for women. Even a simple decision like above clearly exemplifies the far sightedness of the company.
Fortunately, the list goes on and on. Everywhere the group has expanded its reach, it has impacted lives all round it and above are just few to encapsulate the vision of customer centricity and sustainability.
The joy of giving back
From running hospitals to schools and reaching out to villages and skill training the youth, the group has clearly identified the pain areas of the current development scenario and is never shy to work on it. Its CSR programs extensively reach out to the needy and do every bit to improve the condition of the society. Also being a MNC, the group acknowledges its responsibility towards the countries it is operating in. Driving education, healthcare and sustained livelihood project in Philippines, Thailand and Egypt, lifting people out of poverty reflects the spirit of “Vasudhaeva Kutumbakam” (The world is our home).
ABG’s impact on my life
It has provided me with Roti, kapra, makan (Bread, clothes and house) and a fast internet connection. What else a 24-year-old ask for. However, on a serious note ABG has been there in the majority of aspects of my life, be it my telecom operator or the ‘More’ Retail store from where I buy my groceries on a frequent basis and how could forget to mention its clothing line where I used to spend a good percentage of my pay check whenever I went on shopping spree. As it’s correctly said, “If it’s under the sun, it has been touched by the group’s grace” all while working towards sustainability.
