6:33 PM - First-Cut Analysis For Slot 2 by Career Launcher - It is always a painful wait for this all important exam (that students make it out to be) which can determine the future of their careers. CAT 2019 is finally over and as CL has expected, there were no major surprises. In fact, there were many students who came out of the exam hall and said that the paper and especially VARC was similar to the papers that Career Launcher has given in its mocks! CAT 2019 – Slot 2 Pattern
Section No of Questions Time Allotted
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) 34 60 minutes
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning(DILR) 32 60 minutes
Quantitative Aptitude 34 60 minutes

After the end of the slot 1, the students who knew that there was no change in pattern, would have welcomed the slot 2 paper well.

The slot 2 paper was very much similar the last two years papers with a few differences. The overall paper however, can be considered similar the paper of CAT 2018 (in terms of marks) VARC : The VARC section difficult as compared to the last year. Students reported that there were at least one or two passages which were difficult to understand and the questions also were very much of the critical reasoning variety.  The VA section however was, the students felt, doable. The 99 percentile for the VARC  section would be between 57 to 60.   DILR : The DILR section was on the easier side as compared to the last two years. Though there were tricky sets, there were at least couple of sets that could be easily done if one were careful in the paper.  The 99 percentile for the DILR section could be closer to 46 or 48.   QA : There were many Arithmetic questions which were straight forward, as per the  The cutoff for QA section hence may go up by a few marks and the 99 percentile could be closer to 57 to 60.  The overall 99 percentile for slot 2 (without scaling) could be around 153 to 157 marks. Expect detailed analysis from Career Launcher by 9 pm. 6:12 PM - Check out detailed analysis, expected scores, and cut-offs here.

5:50 PM - Slot 2 Feedback by our In-House Aspirant - Quant was relatively easier as compared to 2018, but it was slightly lengthy. It was, however, more straightforward and someone who had good time management should have solved a minimum of 15 questions. Verbal was definitely tougher than both 2018 and 2017, and any attempts with 85-90% above 21-22 would probably be good. DI LR was also not easy, and about 3+ sets were manageable with good time management. Anyone with more attempts with a higher accuracy is sure to reach the 95+ percentile mark. 4:27 PM - Average number of attempts, correct attempts, and accuracy remain the same. While the word on the street is that VARC was on the tougher side, and Quant was relatively easy, what we have noticed that the average number of total attempts for QA has been lower than that of VARC. Our in-house expert says this could be because QA was calculation intensive and while it was only less difficult than CAT 2018, it was still tougher than CAT 2017 - not a boon for non-engineers for sure!

Only few questions were easy but there were some really tricky ones! 2. VARC was really confusing as the reading was easy but the options were really confusing. 3. Starting with this freakish level of VARC, which otherwise remains do-able since the last 2-3 years, was a major set-back. 4. I was getting 95+ in mocks but in actual cat touching even 90 looks difficult. 5. Quant I also found difficult. LRDI was the easiest I feel. 1:35 PM - Hunny Malhotra, CEO of Elites Grid On CAT 2019 Exam - VA - Better than 2016,2017,2018 QA - Better than 2017 but 2018 se easy- 20. Questions good attempt. LR-DI - moderate (Some easy sets also) - 16 Questions good attempts 1:07 PM - Career Launcher First-Cut Analysis - The long wait for the CAT for the First Slot students at least is over.  CAT 2019 - slot 1 (and therefore it will be for slot  2) had no surprises. Despite the mistake that the iimcat website had on the pattern, the pattern continued to be the same.  CAT 2019 – Slot 1 Pattern
Section No of Questions Time Allotted
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) 34 60 minutes
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning 32 60 minutes
Quantitative Aptitude 34 60 minutes
The paper was very much similar the last two years papers with a minor difference.  VARC : The VARC section was a tad difficult, as reported by the students, with RC having more Inference questions coming in as compared to the Fact Based questions that was the norm last couple of years. The VA was very similar to the last three years papers.  The cutoff for the VARC will go down and the 99 percentile may be closer to 60 to 62 marks  LRDI : The LRDI section was on the easier side as compared to the last two years. The sets appeared easy for quite a few students who wrote in the first slot with couple of DI sets and couple of sets of LR doable.  The cutoff for the LRDI section may go up by a few marks, and the 99 percentile could be closer to 48 or 50.  QA : It is always a pleasant surprise if the QA section is easier than expected. The paper, as reported by students, was doable and was possibly easier than that of CAT 2018 paper and tougher than that of the CAT 2017 paper.  The cutoff for QA section hence may go up by a few marks and the 99 percentile could be closer to 57 to 60.   The overall 99 percentile for slot 1 (without scaling) could be around 155 to 158 marks.  Section-wise expected score for 99%ile+ (As predicted by Career Launcher)
