In everyone’s life, there comes a span of time which becomes the most instrumental in shaping his/her career. Last 10 months were the same to me. Involved in it were my desperate efforts to land the dream institute of every CAT aspirant – an IIM. And here I am today, sitting in IIM-Raipur, writing about how and why I chose this place as an entrance to the corporate world.
To be in this institute of national importance, I withdrew my admissions after paying the fees of two other prominent B-schools. Though having a CAT score less than my expectations, a decent WAT-PI and IIM Raipur’s policy of increasing the academic diversity of the batch by giving some extra weightage to non-engineers, I managed to secure in this college.
I chose Raipur over some other IIMs because of several factors. The first and foremost is the institute soon moving to its new campus. It will provide a great impetus to its reputation and hasten the process of establishing itself in the league of BLACKI. The second reason is its excellent Student Exchange Program. I hope to make use of it and spend three months of my MBA, learning and exploring in some other part of the world. Also, my love for travelling also played a huge role in my decision-making process. My bucket list includes my desire to travel to every state and union territory of the country. Chhattisgarh was one of the states left to be explored by me and hence Raipur.
Every morning when I wake up, the very first thing I feel is the pride of being at this place. Surely, there is a long way to go to match the BIG-6 league, but still, I believe the efforts of the administration and the students, will surely make this happen and IIM Raipur, from being an option will escalate to being an automatic choice.
Which ABG Division do you want to work at?
Many people dream of working for one of India’s best conglomerate, THE ADITYA BIRLA GROUP, which operates across 35 countries on the world map. Since hypothetically I have been given a choice, I would choose to work as an Operations Manager at
Utkal Alumina International Limited. This is due to my interest in Operations Management. With the latest technology, quality bauxite, and excellent management of operational activities, the operating cost per tonne of Alumina is one of the lowest in the world. This fact excites me and I want to be a part of its operations team.
