“What!? It is the month of May and you still have not started with mocks? You are so far behind.”“It is just May, you should start giving mocks in July.”“I only started with my mocks in September.”This is just one example of how an aspirant gets conflicting information regarding the simplest of queries when they reach out to people around them. While most people share information with the motivation to help, they only end up sharing the strategies that worked for them, without realizing how strategies can vary among every individual for a plethora of reasons.
Now if we switch our point of view towards the aspirants, it is easy to see how someone with no prior knowledge will feel lost amidst the sea of information. They will feel lost and confused in the best scenario. Add to that the flood of interviews of successful candidates who will share their stories of hard work, and the aspirants will think to themselves – “They have put so much effort, it will be impossible for me to put in the same amount of time and resources” and give up on the preparation journey.If you are feeling any of the above, I am here to tell you – it is normal to feel that way, and you are doing great so far! I would also like to tell you the most effective way to overcome these feelings and get a sense of direction and purpose to your preparation journey – dedicated mentorship. Being able to talk to people who have gone through the same journey as you is especially helpful to wade through all the advice and information available online. And what is best – having the opportunity to connect with mentors with the same background as yours will help instill confidence in you – that you can do it as well.
With this in mind, InsideIIM has launched a mentorship platform - “MBA Insights with InsideIIM” – an initiative that aspires to provide future MBA aspirants a platform to connect with mentors and seek help, guidance, or mentorship from them. I am also excited to announce I have joined as a mentor for this initiative. All of us mentors are B-school students or alumni who have gone through the same journey as you are undertaking currently.
