Understanding IIFT's Admission process in Two Simple Steps
IIFT'S admission policy is very similar to the admission policies adopted by the IIMs. IIFT first shortlists candidates by creating a weighted composite score, assigning weights to a candidate's exam performance, academic profile, and academic and/or gender diversity. Shortlisted candidates are then invited for a Writing Ability Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview round.Following this, candidates are further shortlisted based on their exam performance, WAT-GD-PI performance, academic diversity, work experience and academic consistency.
Step 1 - Shortlisting Candidates For The WAT-GD-PI Round
The short listing of candidates for WAT-GD/Extempore-PI will be done on the basis of IIFT entrance exam percentiles including sectional cut offs. The minimum cut-off percentile is decided based on the number of candidates to be shortlisted as per the availability of seats. The cut-off marks for female candidates across all categories are 2 less than the actual cut-off in line with IIFT’s policy of gender diversity. In addition to the above stated criterion, Marks obtained in X, and XII, will be considered. To ensure balance in class composition at IIFT, upto 5 points may be awarded to non engineers. The table below summarizes the criteria for shortlisting candidates for Stage-I at IIFT.*Calculation of rating scores for Marks obtained in X, XII are presented in Table 2 & 3.A candidate's 10th and 12th marks carry 10% weight each in the shortlisting process for the WAT-GD-PI round. The highest weight is for a candidate's IIFT'S score at a whopping 73% accounting for nearly three quarters of the total composite score. Candidates from non engineering backgrounds, will be awarded up to 5 extra marks, while female applicants will be awarded 2 extra marks.Given below are the rating scores allocated by IIFT for 10th and 12th marks.Rating Scores for the 10th Std. Examination*All subjectsRating Scores for the 12th Std. Examination*All subjects
Step 2- WAT-GD-PI Rounds + Final Shortlisting
The candidate's shortlisted in Step 1 will now proceed to appear for the Written Ability Test, Group Discussion, and Personal Interview round. Each of these will be evaluated to create the final shortlist for admission to IIFT'S MBA (IB) batch of 2022-2024. In addition, a candidate's IIFT Score, academic and gender diversity, work experience, and academic consistency will also be evaluated. The table below summarizes the various criteria and their corresponding weights.Marks for Academic Consistency in 10th and 12th class will be calculated as per rating scores tables provided in the tables above(Step 1), and then proportionally scaled to 4. Work experience will be calculated as per table provided below.
IIFT's Latest Admission Policy - What Does It Mean For You?
The latest IIFT admission policy reveals that at all stages of the selection process but the most important component for selection is your IIFT score. In step 1 of the admission process, you will have 73% of the total weight in your hands.IIFT, unlike many of the IIMs, will not be considering a candidate's graduation scores. However, your 10th and 12th marks will play an important role in both stages of selection process.Non-engineers will get a distinct advantage over engineers, with extra marks allotted to all non engineering graduates in both stages of the selection process. Female candidates will have an especially distinct advantage in both stages of selection. Female candidates will also have to meet cut-offs lower than those for male candidates, as IIFT pushes for a more gender diverse MBA classroom.Unsurprisingly, in the second stage of the selection process, a candidate's GD-PI-WAT performance accounts for 40% of the total weight, though still less than the weight held by a candidate's IIFT performance. Working professionals with over one year of experience but less than 5 years of experience will be awarded extra marks. The maximum marks for work experience are those in the 2-3 year experience range.
