Are you part of any committee in your B-school? Did you know that committees function just like a real corporate body? From an organisation, to communication, to teamwork and leadership skills, you will be required to develop a diverse skill set to be a part of committees. So what exactly do they do? What kind of committees exist in b-schools? How can they help you with your internships and careers in the corporate world? What skills can you expect to develop by being a part of one or more committees in your B-school? Find out in this video, featuring students who are part of different committees in SIMSR.
Sasha Shrimankar, whilst pursuing an MMS from SIMSR, was part of two committees: Interface (Marketing Committee) and Humanist (HR Committee). She speaks of her experiences in these committees and how they helped her gain relevant skills for her internship, as well as her career. Mukul Sharma, PGDM Finance, is a part of the Consultancy Committee and International Business Society. He speaks of how being part of such committees prepares you for real-life situations in the corporate world. Apurva Bhushan, PG Marketing, is a part of the Alumni Committee. She talks of the many different Committees that are part of SIMSR, how they function and how they help students gain real experience. Sangam Singh, PG RM, is a hip hop artist who is part of the Admissions Committee, as well as Grooves (the Official Dance Club of SIMSR). He talks of how Committees help provide a platform to students who have an inclination towards arts. Samarth Kapur, PG Marketing, is a part of Enactus and Finstreet. He speaks of how these committees helped him develop the necessary skills for his career.

Key Takeaways:

1. Committees prepare you for the corporate world. The way committees function is virtually the same as organisations in the real world. They are structured, with a defined hierarchy, roles, responsibilities, etc. 2. You develop relevant skills like leadership, team work, networking, etc. These skills are extremely important when it comes to being a part of the corporate world. For example: the PR Committee of SIMSR handles the PR activities of the college, giving them real experience. 3. Committees are a good place to network. For example, being part of the Alumni Committee will bring you in contact with reputed alums. You learn how to build relations, which is extremely important in the corporate world.
