‘Beti baadi ho gayi hai, shaadi kab karwa rahe hai’, could be the most heard line by any Indian parent, when their daughters reach their 20s. The age is even less if you are from rural India. Women in particular, other than all the other societal expectations, need to bear this burden of getting married ‘on time’, thanks to the constant nagging of immediate family and relatives. What suffers in the process is their aspiration for higher studies and making a mark in the world for themselves!
A lot of women give in to this pressure, but Pallawi Singh, Belonging to a small village in Bihar, Pallawi got the biggest shock of her life when her uncle got shot one fine morning. The dynamics of her life drastically changed and soon after her higher secondary examination her getting married became the most discussed topic in her house.
But Pallawi had other plans for her life. She wanted to study and create a different life for herself. She fought hard not just with her father, but with her immediate surroundings to continue her studies.
With time her confidence grew and she started reasoning with every forced decision that was throttled down her throat. She made it a point to fight hard against the odds and prepare for the best.
And as fortune favors the brave, Pallawi made it to one of the premier B-schools in the country; IIM Kozhikode.
Setting an example for the other girls in her village, Pallawi now is a role model. An example of how women of mettle can surpass insurmountable odds to tread on their path of success.
