Imagine you’re earning a million USD annually, live in a beautiful home in San Francisco, schmooze with the Googles, Microsofts and Facebooks of the world, and trade on Wall Street. Despite all this, you feel something is missing. And so you pack up your awesome life in boxes and move to overcrowded, polluted New Delhi. And you start a new journey that involves a lot of hustle just to found a new ecommerce company called Shopclues. Sounds crazy right? But that’s what Mr. Sandeep Aggarwal did. In this video, find out his story. Also, watch as he shares a few invaluable lessons on entrepreneurship.

Summary of the video:

In this video shot at the i5 Summit at IIM Indore, Shopclues & Droom Founder, Sandeep, shares the story of his life and his journey as an entrepreneur. Sandeep uses history to weave a story of human civilization, and how he himself evolved as evidenced by history. He talks about India’s startup economy and the opportunities it presents to those with an entrepreneurial mindset. He shares how India is slowly gaining international market share when it comes to producing products and services that influence the global economy. He shares the story of starting Shopclues by convincing a few friends to investing a few million dollars, at the same time, competing with Flipkart and Myntra, who were VC backed companies with deep pockets. He talks about entering an overcrowded space to start a new business and still making a mark. He talks about the opportunity that digital business has in a country like India, which is still not entirely digitised. Finally, he takes us through the lessons he learned during his Shopclues journey, before found Droom. If you want to know what it takes to build a successful business in a country like India, this is a must watch for you!

Key Takeaways:

1. India is right now going through a renaissance of entrepreneurship.
2. Humans have so much resilience and perseverance, the likelihood of achieving what they know is possible is extreme.
3. The regret of not doing something of my own in that country will be bigger than anything I give up.
4. When making a decision to be an entrepreneur, ask yourself if you’ll regret not taking that step.
5. Fortune follows the brave.
6. If you’re looking to mitigate risks, entrepreneurship is not for you.
7. Borrowing money from friends to start your own venture is probably one of the toughest things you’ll ever do.
8. Don’t be a spectator in the changing economic story of India. Participate and generate wealth.
9. You have to be a part of the high tide if you wish to hit gold.
10. Luck will also help you only when you participate.
