In our exclusive interview series for IIFT preparation strategies, we have Parul Singh, who has a high score in the IIFT exam, and who beat the odds to finally pave the way for her much awaited journey to the B-school of her choice.A snapshot of her profile and scores: Educational Background: B.Tech. CSE (Bundelkhand Institute of Technology) || Fresher || IIFT: Overall- 97.62%ile || IIFT Score - 106. To know more about her journey, keep reading! The UPL’IIFT’ Series- by the Media Committee, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, in collaboration with InsideIIM is an initiative to help aspirants understand and prepare for the IIFT Entrance Exam with strategies adopted by some of the top performers from the college.  When did you start your preparation for the IIFT exam and can you walk us through your preparation strategy? I started my preparation in 2021, and my strategy was to define weekly tasks, give proper time to mocks and give special attention to either of the three subjects in a week. I had a whole rounded and well-grounded approach as I didn’t want to leave any stone unturned for any particular subject. I wanted to ensure that I score above average in all the three and focus on static GK and current affairs along with the core subjects. What were the resources that you went through while preparing for your Interview? For starters, I began with books by Sarvesh Kumar and Arun Sharma but moving forward, I also purchased test series by IMS institute and rigorously practised questions from all the course material that was available for me. For most part of my preparation I worked hard by myself, but took help from various resources like books, YouTube, seniors etc. For my interview preparation, I followed current affairs, newspapers and also joined relevant Telegram groups where I could indulge in extempore and give mock PIs. Elaborate on your approach while giving mocks. How do you think the mock tests helped you during your preparation? As the exams neared, I used to take two mock tests at once, it helped me sit for longer durations and maintain sheer focus at all times. Secondly my approach was to take mocks during exam timing, sometimes in the morning, then afternoon then evening just to make sure that I was comfortable in all the slots. Thirdly, I used  to keep myself calm even if my first section didn't go well. I retained the composure till the end. VARC was my strongest section but in the real exam I scored more in quants. For VARC one thing I did was to go through different essays and I wrote one line summaries as soon as I went through the paragraph.

Mention some of the Do’s & Don’ts of IIFT preparation. Do's 1) Make sure you practice a lot 2). Talk to people and get their perspective over different aspects of preparation, talking helps a lot 3). Take enough mocks to get a hands-on experience before the exams 4). Read a lot - fiction, non-fiction, editorials everything Don't 1) Do not panic if you scored less in mocks 2) Do not leave any section untouched for long, keep practising questions from all the areas
