The IIM Calcutta selection criteria 2019 have been released! IIM Calcutta has revised its admissions criteria for the flagship PGP programme by including candidates' graduation marks as a selection criterion to get shortlisted for the WAT-PI round. Here is how the latest selection criteria affect your chances of making it to IIM Calcutta's PGP batch of 2020-2022.

IIM Calcutta Admission Criteria 2019 - Important Highlights

The following are the five major takeaways from IIM Calcutta's latest admission/selection criteria: 1. IIM Calcutta, one of the few IIMs that excluded graduation scores as a selection criterion, will now include candidates' Bachelor's degree marks to compute a composite score that will be used to shortlist candidates for the WAT-PI round. Graduation scores have been assigned a weight of 15%. But here's the good news - if your graduation score is ≥ 60%, you receive full marks (15/15), while if your graduation score is ≥ 55%, you receive 10 marks. Candidates with less than 50% marks in graduation will receive a score of 2.5 out of a maximum score of 15, which appears to be applicable only to applicants from special categories since those from General category with less than 50% marks in graduation aren't eligible to take the CAT 2019 exam. 2. The minimum sectional percentile for QA has been reduced from 80%ile to 75%ile for the Open category, while the minimum overall percentile has been reduced from 90%ile to 85%ile for the Open category. This move has perhaps been made to make it easier for non-engineers to arrive at at least the minimum CAT QA percentile required to get be considered for IIM Calcutta's PGP programme. 3. Due to the introduction of Bachelor's degree marks, IIM Calcutta's new admissions criteria see a reduction in the weight for 10th and 12th marks. In 2018, 10th and 12th marks each accounted for 20% of the criteria. In the revised selection criteria, 10th marks now have a weight of 10%, while 12th marks have a weight of 15% to calculate the composite score to shortlist candidates for the WAT-PI round. 4. There has also been a change in the 'work experience' selection criterion used to compute the composite score for the final selection of candidates for the PGP programme. In 2018, those with at least half a year of work experience were awarded points but in 2019, candidates with less than 12 months of work experience will be awarded no points. Furthermore, the maximum points for work experience have increased from 6 points to 8 points, with professionals possessing between 31-36 months of work experience being awarded the maximum marks. 5. IIM Calcutta continues to push for a more gender-diverse batch, assigning a 4% weight for gender diversity in the latest admissions criteria. IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria 2019 - Overview

IIM Calcutta has two rounds in its admissions process for the flagship Post Graduate Programme (MBA). In the first round, IIM Calcutta shortlists candidates for the Writing Ability Test and Personal Interview round based on their CAT score, 10th marks, 12th marks, graduation marks, and awards special points for gender diversity. In round two, IIM Calcutta conducts the final selection of candidates for the 2-year PGP programme, based on the candidate's WAT-PI performance, as well as their CAT score, work experience, and academic diversity (if applicable).

Minimum Section & Overall CAT 2019 Cut-Offs For IIM Calcutta

In the preliminary screening round, candidates must meet the minimum section and overall CAT 2019 percentile cut-offs set by IIM Calcutta to be even considered for the next set of rounds. The following are the minimum section and overall CAT 2019 cut-offs set by IIM Calcutta: DisclaimerIt is important to note that the actual section-wise and overall percentile of a short-listed candidate may be much higher than the below-mentioned criteria as it will depend upon the number of candidates to be called for interview in each category.
 Category Quantitative Ability
(QA)
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning
(DILR)
Verbal Ability &
Reading Comprehension
(VA-RC)
Total Percentile
OPEN ≥ 75 ≥ 80 ≥ 80 ≥ 85
NC-OBC ≥ 65 ≥ 65 ≥ 70 ≥ 75
EWS ≥ 65 ≥ 65 ≥ 70 ≥ 75
SC ≥ 60 ≥ 60 ≥ 65 ≥ 70
ST ≥ 55 ≥ 55 ≥ 55 ≥ 65
PWD ≥ 55 ≥ 55 ≥ 55 ≥ 65
Note - Simply meeting the minimum sectional and overall CAT 2019 cut-offs set by IIM Calcutta is not a guarantee of a shortlist call from the institute. IIM Calcutta computes candidates' composite scores by considering various other components, such as their academic profile. More importantly, CAT 2019 scores account for nearly 3/5th of the total weight while computing composite scores, implying that a higher CAT score improves your chances of getting a shortlist call from IIM Calcutta.

Composite Score (CS)

IIM Calcutta calculates a weighted composite score (CS) to shortlist candidates for the WAT-PI round. The following are the components of the CS: IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria 2019 - Points For Class 10th Marks
Class 10th Marks (in %) Points
≥80 10
≥ 75 and < 80 8
≥ 70 and < 75 6
≥ 65 and < 70 4
≥ 60 and < 65 2
< 60 0
IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria 2019 - Points For Class 12th Marks
Class 12th Marks (in %) Points
≥80 15
≥ 75 and < 80 12
≥ 70 and < 75 9
≥ 65 and < 70 6
≥ 60 and < 65 3
< 60 0
Note - For computing the percentage of marks obtained in Class 10th and Class 12th, the aggregate marks of all subjects that appear in the mark sheet/grade sheet would be considered, irrespective of whether the Board considers them for calculation of percentage or not. IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria 2019 - Points For Graduation Marks
Bachelor’s Degree Marks (in %) Points
≥ 60 15
≥ 55 and < 60 10
≥ 50 and < 55 5
< 50 2.5
IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria 2019 - Composite Score (CS) Calculation The following are the weights assigned to each of the components in IIM Calcutta's selection criteria for 2019:
Components Weights Method of Calculation
CAT 2019 Score 56 (Candidate's CAT 2019 Score/Maximum CAT 2019 Score) x 56
Class 10 marks 10
Class 12 marks 15
Bachelor’s Degree marks 15
Gender Diversity Factor 4 4 points will be awarded to promote gender diversity
Total 100
Note - After deriving the composite scores, the composite cut-off will be decided in each category for short-listing the candidate in Stage II selection process. The number of candidates to be short-listed for PI and WAT process would be the sole discretion of the Institute depending upon the batch size of the incoming batch. To understand the calculation process for the composite score (CS), consider the following example. Riddhi has a scaled score of 130 in CAT 2019, out of a maximum possible score of 300. She meets all the minimum sectional cut-offs as well as the overall cut-off set by IIM Calcutta. Riddhi's academic profile (10th/12th/Graduation) is (85/90/75). Therefore, Riddhi's total composite score will be calculated as: Composite Score = 56 * (130/300) + 10 + 15 + 15 + 4 = 68.27 Another candidate, Siddhi, has a scaled score of 150 in CAT 2019. Siddhi's academic profile (10th/12th/Graduation) is (75/80/65). Her composite score will be calculated as: Composite Score = 56 * (150/300) + 8 + 15 + 15 + 4 = 70 Clearly, even though Riddhi has a better academic profile, Siddhi has a higher composite score due to her CAT 2019 score. This indicates that one of the most important criteria to get shortlisted by IIM Calcutta is a candidate's CAT 2019 score.

IIM Calcutta Admission/Selection Criteria 2019 - Final Selection

For the final selection process for IIM Calcutta's PGP programme, a weighted composite score (CS) will be calculated via the following components:
Components Weights
CAT 2019 Score 30
Personal Interview (PI) 48
Written Ability Test (WAT) 10
Point awarded for Academic Diversity at Bachelor’s level for Non-Engineering degree 04
Work Experience 08
Total 100
For work experience, a maximum of eight points will be awarded based on the length of service as on January 31, 2020. Training/Project work/work done as an integral part of the curricular requirement will not be considered. The following are the points for work experience based on months completed:
Months Points
< 12 0
12 to 18 2
19 to 24 4
25 to 30 6
31 to 36 8
37 to 42 6
43 to 48 4
>48 2
