IIM Jammu's 2021 admission policy has now been released by the institute. The major headline is that, in addition to the CAP process of selection, IIM Jammu will conduct an additional selection process only for those candidates who meet the institute's selection criteria but do not meet the CAP 2022 cut-off criteria. This year, IIM Jammu has set the minimum overall CAT 2021 percentile at the 93rd percentile, while the minimum cut-off for each of the three sections has been set at the 70th percentile. Here's a breakdown of IIM Jammu's 2021 admission policy.
IIM Jammu 2021 Admission Policy - Five Key Points To Remember
- IIM Jammu has set the minimum overall CAT 2021 cut-off at the 93rd percentile and the minimum sectional cut-offs at the 70th percentile for the General category of applicants. Please note that simply meeting the minimum percentile cut-offs is not a guarantee of being shortlisted for the personal interview round.
- IIM Jammu has announced that, in addition to CAP, the institute will conduct an additional Supplementary Admission Process (SAP 2022) for those candidates who meet IIM Jammu's selection criteria but don't meet the CAP 2022 cut-off criteria.
- While creating the final merit list, IIM Jammu has assigned a 40% weight to a candidate's CAT 2021 score, 30% weight to their personal interview performance, and 30% weight to their profile.
- A candidate's 10th, 12th, and graduation marks will contribute 3% weight each to the overall composite score. Additionally, IIM Indore has assigned 8% weight for gender diversity and 5% weight for academic diversity.
- Candidates with less than/equal to 1 year of work experience or greater than 5 years of work experience will receive no marks for the work experience component.
Understanding IIM Jammu's 2021 Admission Policy In Two Simple Steps
IIM Jammu's 2021 admission policy can be broken down into two simple steps. In the first phase of the admission process, IIM Jammu will shortlist candidates for the Personal Interview round based on cut-offs set by the institute. In the second phase, candidates will appear for the personal interview round and be subsequently shortlisted for admission based on their profile, CAT 2021 performance, and interview performance. Here is a breakdown of IIM Jammu's 2021 admission policy.
Step 1 - Shortlisting candidates based on CAT 2021 cut-off
In the first step, IIM Jammu will screen candidates based on minimum overall and sectional CAT 2021 percentile cut-offs set by the institute, as can be seen in the table below. Then, IIM Jammu's admissions committee will decide the number of candidates to be called for the PI process, based on criteria prepared for each category.

"In case of female candidates under the general category, the overall cut-off percentile marks for eligibility for Personal Interview (PI) process is greater or equal to 85 with sectional cut-offs of 75 percentile. However, getting an overall CAT percentile of greater or equal to 85 does not automatically guarantee a call for Personal Interview (PI) process. Within this pool of eligible candidates, the final list of candidates to be called for Personal Interview (PI) process will be decided strictly based on order of merit and as per the requirements of IIM Jammu."
Step 2 - Creating final shortlist based on weighted composite score
Now, candidates screened in step 1 will appear for the personal interview round. After the PI process has been completed, candidates will be shortlisted based on a weighted composite score that will taken into account a candidate's CAT 2021 performance (40% weight), personal interview performance (30% weight), and profile (30%) weight. Here is a breakdown of the components of the composite score and their respective weights.

- Diversity - Academic + Gender (13% Weight)
Candidates from a non-engineering background will receive 5 extra marks, while female candidates will receive 8 extra marks in the admission process. Therefore, female non-engineering applicants will have an additional advantage of 13 marks in IIM Jammu's admission process.
What Does IIM Jammu's 2021 Admission Policy Mean For You?
To even be eligible for IIM Jammu's admission process via CAP, you'll need to meet the minimum overall and sectional CAT 2021 cut-offs. Post that, you will have a total of 70% of the weight of the composite score in your hands, i.e., your CAT 2021 score + personal interview performance. This is great news for those who have a below-par profile in terms of academics and/or work experience and/or diversity.
Candidates with less than or equal to 12 months or over 60 months of work experience will get no additional marks for that component. Women candidates (especially non-engineers) have a massive advantage in IIM Jammu's admission process, with 13% of the weight going for diversity.
Also to be noted is that IIM Jammu, in addition to the CAP selection process, will conduct an additional Supplementary Admission Process (SAP 2022) for candidates who meet IIM Jammu's PI shortlisting criteria but don't meet the CAP 2022 percentile cut-offs. This is great news for those who may miss out on meeting the sectional CAT 2021 cut-offs for IIM Jammu but have a fairly good overall CAT 2021 percentile.
